Tottenham Hotspur once again slump to a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Liverpool as their poor run against the Reds continues. It was an entertaining game to watch, with a late first-half goal from Roberto Firmino giving the away side the upper hand. Jurgen Klopp’s side doubled their lead shortly after the restart, but it was cancelled out by an excellent strike from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to inspire a comeback as Liverpool sealed the deal with a 65th-minute strike from Sadio Mane.
Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings Vs Liverpool
Hugo Lloris: 4/10
Hugo Lloris should have done much better in between the sticks, especially for the first goal when he refused the clean the cross, allowing Firmino to score.
Joe Rodon: 5/10
Joe Rodon played well for the large parts of the game, making some useful tackles and interceptions. However, it was his mistake that helped Liverpool seal the win.
Eric Dier: 6/10
Eric Dier looked strong in defence, but a lack of communication led to the Liverpool opener. Not the most impressive of performances from the Spurs centre-back.
Ben Davies: 6/10
Ben Davies had a decent game in central defence, providing cover for the two centre-backs. Couldn’t close down Alexander-Arnold quickly enough to prevent the second goal.
Serge Aurier: 5/10
Serge Aurier started the game well but looked very vulnerable during the late stages of the first half. He was replaced at half-time and unsurprisingly so.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg: 7.5/10
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg had a good game in the middle of the park. He made the interceptions and the tackles, preventing Liverpool from dominating the game. Also scored an excellent goal to bring his team back into the clash.
Tanguy Ndombele: 5/10
Tanguy Ndombele had a rather disappointing performance, failing to provide any real creativity in the final third. Struggled especially after the substitution of Harry Kane.
Matt Doherty: 5/10
Matt Doherty had a miserable game on the flanks, especially in the second half where he was bombarded by Mane. Simply not good enough from the Irishman.
Steven Bergwijn: 4/10
Steven Bergwijn provided virtually nothing to the table despite playing the majority of the game. He only covered a lot of ground, without doing anything of note.
Harry Kane: 7/10
Harry Kane was a major threat for the Liverpool defence, especially with his passes forward. He was very unfortunate to pick up a knock that saw him leave the pitch at half-time.
Son Heung-Min: 6/10
Son Heung-Min was very lively during the early stages of the game and had a goal ruled out due to offside. His influence waned in the second half though.
SUBSTITUTES
Harry Winks: 5/10
Harry Winks failed to provide too much to the table for Tottenham after coming on at the start of the second half.
Erik Lamela: 5/10
Erik Lamela looked lively, at times, but his decision making was poor and his offensive influence diminished as the game progressed.
Gareth Bale: N/A
A late replacement for Bergwijn. Couldn’t manage to change the complexion of the game.
