Everton will play hosts to Newcastle United at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon as they look to return to winning ways in the Premier League. The Toffees were held to a 1-1 draw by Leicester City earlier this week, so they would be eager to put on a good show versus the Magpies this weekend.
Carlo Ancelotti will probably go with a 4-4-2 formation and is probably going to keep changes to a minimum for this upcoming league clash at home. James Rodriguez will once again be expected to play as a makeshift forward alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin up top.
4-4-2 Everton Predicted Lineup To Face Newcastle United
Defence
Jordan Pickford will function as the first-team goalkeeper for Everton after he failed to keep a clean sheet in his last league outing. Michael Keane will resume his defensive partnership with Yerry Mina at the heart of the Toffees backline as they look to keep Newcastle’s Callum Wilson quiet throughout the 90 minutes.
Mason Holgate will continue to operate at right-back while Ben Godfrey fills in on the other flank as a makeshift left-back. Both of them will have to be a bit adventurous in the opposition half so that they can create some promising goal-scoring opportunities for their teammates up top.
Seamus Coleman will be available for selection on the bench but could come on to influence the game in the second 45 minutes if needed.
Midfield
Andre Gomes will anchor the midfield along with Tom Davies as they try to dominate the ball at the centre of the park and engineer some meaningful openings in the final third. Lucas Digne might keep his place on the left flank as he tries to cause a few problems for the Magpies defenders during the game. Richarlison will operate as the right-winger but will have to produce a much-improved showing following a lacklustre performance from him versus the Foxes on Wednesday night.
Gylfi Sigurdsson and Alex Iwobi will be named on the bench as they offer cover for the midfield and wing positions.
Attack
James Rodriguez will assume the duties of a supporting striker alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the attacking third. The Colombian international managed to get his name on the scoresheet against Brendan Rodgers’ men, so he will be quietly confident about putting on another similar display this weekend.
Anthony Gordon will have to be content with a spot on the bench as he waits for his chance to shine as an impact substitute if required.
