Chelsea played hosts to Wolves at Stamford Bridge earlier this evening hoping to start life under their new manager Thomas Tuchel with a win at home. The Blues dominated the game for the majority of the first half but struggled to break the Wolves defence down. The home side went into the half-time with a goalless scoreline.
Tuchel’s men tried their best to push on in search of the winning goal in the second 45 minutes, but Wolves defended valiantly to keep the Chelsea players frustrated. The contest finished with both sides grinding out a 0-0 draw at the English capital.
Let’s take a look at how each Chelsea player fared during the match against Wolves.
GK: Edouard Mendy – 6.5/10
The Blues keeper did not have a save to make in the game and kept an easy clean sheet at the back. He was also tidy with his ball-distribution.
RB: Cesar Azpilicueta – 7/10
The Spaniard was a solid presence when defending inside his half and managed to create a couple of inviting chances going forward.
CB: Thiago Silva – 7/10
The Brazilian centre-back read the danger quickly and made some important clearances during the game to earn another clean sheet at Stamford Bridge.
CB: Antonio Rudiger – 7/10
He dealt with everything that came his way during the 90 minutes and will be quite happy for restricting the opposition from scoring this evening.
LB: Ben Chilwell – 6/10
The talented left-back struggled to get himself involved in the game. He ran out of gas and got replaced in the second half.
CM: Jorginho – 7/10
Jorginho protected his backline well and helped his team dominate the game at the centre of the park.
CM: Mateo Kovacic – 8/10
He kept himself busy defensively and did well to earn possession back for his side. He was also a constant nuisance for Nuno Espirito Santo’s defenders as he caused all kinds of problems for them with his tireless running and creativity.
RM: Callum Hudson-Odoi – 7/10
Hudson-Odoi used his pace quite effectively at times but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
CAM: Hakim Ziyech – 7/10
The ex-Ajax attacker engineered quite a few decent opportunities for his teammates to score but will be disappointed for not getting his name on the scoresheet.
LM: Kai Havertz – 6/10
The German youngster had a couple of bright moments during the game but was guilty of squandering a decent chance to win the game for his team in the last-minute.
ST: Olivier Giroud – 6.5/10
The French centre-forward was a bit wasteful in the final third during his time on the field. He got subbed in the 76th minute.
Substitutes:
LW: Christian Pulisic – 6/10
Pulisic didn’t do enough to get himself a goal.
ST: Tammy Abraham – 6/10
The striker never got a sniff at goal.
CM: Mason Mount – N/A
The English midfielder hardly had any time to make an impact.
