Manchester United faced off against Sheffield United at the Old Trafford earlier tonight hoping to pick up a win and restore their position at the top of the league table. However, the Red Devils fell prey to Chris Wilders’ men as goals from Kean Bryan and Oliver Burke sealed their first away win of the campaign. Harry Maguire’s goal at the 64th minute from a set-piece situation certainly provided the hosts with great hopes but it was the visitors who emerged victorious in the end.
Let’s take a look at how each Manchester United player fared during the match against the Blades.
David de Gea – 5/10
The Spanish shot-stopper made a fatal mistake which led to the concession of the first goal of the game; however, there’s nothing he could have done about the second goal.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6/10
The English full-back showed a rare attacking intent today as he made some overlapping runs beyond Mason Greenwood to facilitate United’s play down the right flank in the first half.
Axel Tuanzebe – 5/10
The 23-year-old defender mistimed a tackle right before the half time whistle which led to the concession of a yellow card. Furthermore, he was left clueless when the visitors scored their second goal as the ball hit his thigh before finding the back of the net.
Harry Maguire – 7/10
The skipper converted from Alex Telles’ cross in the second-half to make it 1-1 for the hosts; however, he failed to coordinate properly with Tuanzebe for the majority of the game.
Alex Telles – 5/10
The Brazilian left-back whipped in a few quality crosses but his defending was horrible to be fair. He looked callous at the back as he left plenty of space for Chris Wilder’s men to run into.
Paul Pogba – 6/10
The Frenchman’s overall ball distribution was decent but he lacked the creative instinct throughout the 90 minutes.
Nemanja Matic – 6.5/10
The Serbian international fulfilled most of his defensive duties as he made some decent tackles and interceptions at the centre of the park.
Mason Greenwood – 6/10
The 19-year-old looked sharp on the right-wing but lacked the cutting edge in front of the goal. Was replaced by Edinson Cavani at the 66-minute-mark.
Bruno Fernandes – 6.5/10
The Portuguese playmaker tried his level best to create openings for his teammates throughout the game but miserably failed in the process.
Marcus Rashford – 6/10
The Englishman failed to get himself on the end of chances as he had a relatively quiet game.
Anthony Martial – 5.5/10
The French international failed to impress once again as he had little to no influence on the game. Looked quite nervous on the ball as well.
SUBSTITUTES:
Edinson Cavani – 6/10
Made some good runs to exploit the gaps behind the Sheffield defence.
Donny van de Beek – 6/10
The Dutch international provided the home side with some extra energy in midfield.
Luke Shaw – N/A
Came on for the last 7 minutes. Had very little to do.
