It was a local derby at Firhill Stadium at Saturday lunchtime as Rangers travelled to play struggling Partick Thistle. Well, Partick Thistle did not exactly struggle that much in the game. They did put a neck to neck fight against a much stronger Rangers side. However, their inability to convert the chances coming their way has hurt them dearly throughout the season and this game was a similar story.
Rangers stretched their unbeaten run to seven games with a 1-2 win against Thistle but it did not come the easy way. They found themselves 1-0 behind following a Kris Doolan strike in the 76th minute. A number of missed chances was their highlight up to that point but the Gers responded in style. Just when Warburton needed a special player to inspire the whole team, 21-year-old stepped up big time.
The English forward scored the equaliser in the 81st minute with a stunning volley. The pressure was strongly growing after that but it looked that Partick Thistle would be able to hold onto it but in the 94th minute, it was Dodoo who struck again to give Rangers all three points from the game. It was far from an impressive display by Rangers but they got all three points. Sometimes you gotta win the ugly way!
Here are Rangers player ratings from the game.
Wes Foderingham: 7
Made some crucial saves but was helpless for the goal.
James Tavernier: 6.5
Bombed forward throughout the game but was a guilty party for the goal his team conceded.
Rob Kiernan: 6
Made a superb block in the first half that looked destined for the net. But, overall, did not have a good game.
Danny Wilson: 6
Made a comeback to the starting XI in place of Clint Hill but failed to impress.
Lee Wallace: 6
Was vastly absent in the attack, like he usually does. Made some good crosses for his teammates and link up play was good with Miller.
Andy Halliday: 6
Full of energy. Covered every blade of grass but lacked composure and creativity
Jason Holt: 5.5
Was poor with his creativity. Got dispossessed easily at times.
Josh Windass: 5
Did not make much impact in the first half before being withdrawn with a suspected hamstring injury.
Harry Forrester: 7.5
One of those players who was trying to make something happen. Was brilliant with his dribbling and creativity.
Joe Garner: 5
Another quite afternoon for the forward.
Kenny Miller: 8
Was unlucky to see his amazing header getting saved. Made both assists for Dodoo, helping Rangers win the game. Full of intent.
