Chelsea will entertain Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening as they look to pick up all three points at home. The Blues managed to secure a comfortable 3-1 win over Luton Town in the FA Cup, which will give them some much-needed confidence heading into this midweek contest versus Nuno Espirito Santo’s men. However, Lampard’s sacking today means that it would be difficult to gauge how this Chelsea squad reacts.
The West London outfit will set up in a 4-3-3 formation and are expected to make a few changes to their first-team for this upcoming clash at the English capital. Both Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho will probably feature in their midfield after they were rested in midweek.
4-3-3 Chelsea Predicted Lineup To Face Wolves
Defence
Edouard Mendy will return to operate in between the sticks for the Blues after he got a rest in the FA Cup game last weekend. Thiago Silva will resume his defensive partnership with Kurt Zouma at the heart of the Chelsea backline as they look to stop the opposition from finding the back of the net during the 90 minutes.
Reece James will function at right-back while Ben Chilwell fills in on the other flank as the left-back. Both of them will have to be a bit adventurous out on the wide areas so that they can offer adequate support to the front players.
Andreas Christensen and Emerson will be available for selection on the bench as they provide cover for the defensive positions.
Midfield
Chelsea could set themselves up with a midfield three of Mason Mount, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic. The hard-working trio will have to figure out a way to create some decent chances for their teammates up top by playing at a high tempo at the centre of the park.
Billy Gilmour will make up the numbers on the Chelsea bench as he waits for his chance to make an impact in the second half if required.
Attack
Christian Pulisic will try to cause a few problems for the Wolves defenders from the left flank while Hakim Ziyech looks to do the same as the right-sided winger. Tammy Abraham will lead the line for the Blues down the middle after he bagged a hattrick versus Luton Town last weekend.
Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Olivier Giroud will have to settle for a spot on the bench but could influence the game in the latter stages if needed.
