Liverpool clashed heads with Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier this evening hoping to pick up a victory on their travels so that they can seal a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup. The Reds made a bright start to the game and took the lead in the 18th minute courtesy of Mohamed Salah’s goal. However, Mason Greenwood equalised for the Red Devils just eight minutes later when he scored with a tidy finish from close range. Both sides went into the half-time break with nothing to split them.
The home side got themselves ahead just three minutes into the second half when Marcus Rashford found the back of the net. However, Salah got himself another goal as he equalised for the Merseyside outfit in the 58th minute. Bruno Fernandes came off the bench to score the winner for Man United as Jurgen Klopp’s men ended up losing the contest by a 3-2 scoreline.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the clash against the Red Devils.
GK: Alisson Becker – 5/10
The Brazilian keeper took a lot of risks at the back in what was a far from convincing display from him tonight.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 4/10
The English right-back didn’t have the pace to track Marcus Rashford’s dangerous runs during the game and failed to create anything meaningful in the final third. If his poor run of form continues, then he needs to be dropped soon as he is currently not doing enough as Klopp’s first-choice right-back.
CB: Rhys Williams – 4/10
Defensively, Williams was a bit all over the pace as he made some foolish decisions which ended up costing his side the result.
CB: Fabinho – 5/10
The Brazilian talent lacked leadership and gave away the freekick from which Fernandes scored the winner.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 5/10
The Scottish full-back lacked the energy to get up and down the field. However, he performed his defensive duties well when called into action.
CM: James Milner – 4/10
Milner was at fault in the lead up to Greenwood’s equaliser in the first half. He was far from his best tonight, which did not help Liverpool’s cause.
CM: Georginio Wijnaldum – 5/10
The Dutch playmaker struggled to create any noteworthy chances as he often played it safe when passing the ball in the opposition half.
CM: Thiago Alcantara – 6/10
Thiago fought for every loose ball and played some encouraging passes which gave his teammates some optimism. However, he ran out of gas and got replaced in the second half.
RW: Mohamed Salah – 8/10
The Egyptian winger scored two goals during the game with two fine finishes. However, he was sloppy when linking up play with his teammates as he gave the ball cheaply quite a few times in the Man United half.
ST: Roberto Firmino – 6.5/10
The Brazilian striker showed some nice touches in the first half. Even then, he never looked like he had a goal in him.
LW: Curtis Jones – 6/10
Jones tried to make things happen but was often overcrowded by the Man United defenders. He will be hoping for more productive times in a Liverpool shirt.
Substitutes:
RW: Sadio Mane – 5/10
He was full of running after coming off the bench but didn’t have the quality required to unlock the Man United defence.
CM: Xherdan Shaqiri – N/A
Shaqiri hardly had any time to make an impact.
ST: Divock Origi – N/A
He did not get enough time to warrant a rating.
