Manchester United faced off against Liverpool at the Old Trafford earlier tonight hoping to pick up a win and progress into the fifth round of the FA Cup. Well, it’ll be fair to say that the clash lived up to its expectations as both the sides showed immense will power to fight till the end; however, it was the hosts who emerged victorious in the end. Marcus Rashford was arguably Machester United’s best player on the pitch tonight whereas Bruno Fernandes stole the show in the dying moments as he converted from a free-kick to make it 3-2 for the home side.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player fared during the match against the Reds.
Dean Henderson – 6/10
Even though the English shot-stopper conceded twice, he made some important saves in the latter stages of the match.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6.5/10
Probably the only defender in the United back-line who didn’t put a foot wrong in the entire game. However, his functionality in the opposition half was very limited.
Victor Lindelof – 6/10
The Swedish centre-half wasn’t at his best tonight as he failed to position himself accordingly on a couple of occasions.
Harry Maguire – 6/10
The United skipper looked confident at the back as he made some important blocks and clearances to keep his side in the game.
Luke Shaw – 5.5/10
The English full-back made some good overlapping runs to support Rashford on the wing; however, he was completely outclassed by Mohammed Salah in his own half.
Paul Pogba – 6/10
The Frenchman’s ball retention at the centre of the park was below average tonight. Nonetheless, his overall ball distribution looked impressive as he did just enough to help his side win the game.
Scott McTominay – 7/10
The Scottish midfielder read the game well on a number of situations as he made some crucial interceptions to break down the opposition’s build-up play.
Mason Greenwood – 8/10
The 19-year-old kept his composure in front of the goal to level things out for the home side in the first half. Besides, he looked sharp in the second as he got himself an assist as well.
Donny van de Beek – 6.5/10
The Dutch international could have made better decisions to influence the game in the final third. Was brought off for Bruno Fernandes at the 66-minute-mark.
Marcus Rashford – 9/10
The Englishman was a constant menace down the left flank throughout the 90 minutes. Played a brilliant long ball to find Mason Greenwood on the right for United’s equalising goal and capitalised on Rhys William’s mistake in the second half to make it 2-1 for the hosts.
Edinson Cavani – 7/10
The Uruguayan striker made several incisive runs to take part in the counter-attacks; however, he was let down by his pace occasionally. His work rate was tremendous.
SUBSTITUTES:
Anthony Martial – N/A
It was too late when he came on.
Bruno Fernandes – 8/10
The Portuguese playmaker converted from a set-piece to score the fifth and final goal of the match.
Fred – 7/10
The Brazilian international was probably brought on to add stability to United’s midfield after the concession of the second goal.
