In a recent report, Sport.ro revealed that West Ham United want to land FCSB midfielder Darius Olaru this month. It is believed that the Romanian outfit are eager to recoup around €7m for their prized asset with the Hammers interested in acquiring the player’s services during this winter transfer window (via Sport.ro).
Olaru’s Impressive Rise In Romanian Football
The Medias-born sensation has experienced an impressive season in Romanian football after putting on a string of productive displays as a box to box midfielder in Anton Petrea’s first-team. Olaru has featured in 13 matches for FCSB this term, netting four goals and providing two assists in all competitions.
The 22-year-old has established himself amongst the best young midfielders in the Romanian top-flight. At such a tender age, Olaru has already made 90 appearances in Romanian football’s first division, registering eight goals and ten assists in the process, which goes to show just how well he has performed in the comforts of his homeland over the past few years.
However, only time will tell whether he can replicate his eye-catching form in the Premier League if the Hammers end up recruiting him before the end of this month. At €7m, Olaru could be a real steal for West Ham in the long-run if he ends up becoming a regular starter under David Moyes’ tutelage in the coming seasons.
What Will The Romanian Midfielder Add To Moyes’ Side?
Olaru has decent pace under his belt that helps him make some quick sprints towards the opponent’s penalty box. He shows excellent balance and agility when running with the ball and can be a hard man to mark for the opposition defenders.
The Romanian playmaker has a great work ethic and can contribute by scoring and setting up his fair share of goals from midfield. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and has not played regular competitive football outside Romania yet.
Signing someone of Olaru’s potential will be a risk worth taking for Moyes as he will add some much-needed depth to his midfield department. Furthermore, Olaru could turn out to be an ideal long-term successor to Mark Noble, who is edging closer towards the end of his West Ham career as he has got less than six months remaining on his contract.
With all things considered, the Hammers would be wise to secure Olaru’s signature this month as he will increase competition for places within Moyes’ squad and could potentially become a future starter at the London Stadium in the years to come.
