Chelsea locked horns with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium earlier tonight hoping to pick up a positive result on their travels. The Blues made a nightmare start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the sixth minute when Wilfred Ndidi found the back of the net for the Foxes. James Maddison doubled the home team’s lead in the 41st minute with a great finish which put daylight between the two teams at half-time.
Both sides fought tooth and nail in the second 45 minutes but couldn’t add to the goal tally as the contest ended with the West London outfit suffering a disappointing 2-0 loss away at the East Midlands.
Let’s take a look at how each Chelsea player fared during the clash against the Foxes.
GK: Edouard Mendy – 6.5/10
The French keeper passed the ball relatively well out from the back and made some decent stops to keep the scoreline down. However, he won’t be happy after shipping in two goals during the 90 minutes.
RB: Reece James – 7/10
James was defensively solid inside his half and did well to engineer a couple of decent chances for his teammates in the final third.
CB: Antonio Rüdiger – 6/10
He made a couple of important clearances but struggled to win the ball back for his team. He will be disappointed for allowing two goals in the first half.
CB: Thiago Silva – 6.5/10
The Brazilian centre-back did well to clear the danger when called into action. However, it was still a far from convincing performance from him on the defensive end of the field tonight.
LB: Ben Chilwell – 5/10
Chilwell didn’t do too much wrong when defending at the back but failed to influence the game in the Leicester half.
CM: Kai Havertz – 5/10
The German playmaker had some bright moments but didn’t do nearly enough to justify a start. He ran of gas and got replaced after the hour mark.
CM: Mateo Kovacic – 7/10
Kovacic was not shy of getting stuck in with some crunching tackles and made quite a few driving runs with the ball from midfield. He was a rare light in what was a dim display from Lampard’s men.
CM: Mason Mount – 7.5/10
The English talent was Chelsea’s best player on the field tonight. He worked his socks off to earn possession back for his team and orchestrated several inviting chances for others around him.
RW: Callum Hudson-Odoi – 6/10
He was lively at times but didn’t do enough to trouble the Leicester defenders. Hudson-Odoi got subbed in the second half.
ST: Tammy Abraham – 6/10
Abraham squandered a few decent opportunities to find the back of the net during the 90 minutes. He will be hoping for more productive nights in a Chelsea shirt.
LW: Christian Pulisic – 6/10
The former Borussia Dortmund youngster faded in and out of the game, and never looked like he had a goal in him.
Substitutes:
RW: Hakim Ziyech – 6.5/10
Ziyech came off the bench to produce a bright cameo in the last quarter of the game.
ST: Timo Werner – 6/10
The German striker offered very little in the final third.
