In a recent interview (via Area Napoli), Italian journalist Fabio Santini has provided an update on Manchester City‘s pursuit of Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku. Santini has claimed that Man City have launched an €80m offer for the Belgian international as he said (translated by Sport Witness),
“Attention: Manchester City have presented an offer to Inter equal to eighty million euros for Romelu Lukaku. The English club has instead proposed fifteen million euros a season to the Belgian forward. Currently he earns ten with the Nerazzurri.”
Lukaku’s Impressive Form In This Serie A Campaign
The 27-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant season at the San Siro so far and has been responsible for putting on a string of match-winning performances as the focal point of Antonio Conte’s attack. Lukaku has done well to score 17 goals and secure three assists in 23 matches for the Italian giants this term across various competitions.
The former Manchester United striker has established himself as one of the top performers in Milan by averaging 2.7 shots, 1.2 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Serie A. However, he tends to give away the ball cheaply at times when distributing it deep inside the opposition half after he completed 76.2% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
What Will The Belgian Striker Add To Pep Guardiola’s Side?
Lukaku boasts decent pace in his locker that enables him to make some powerful runs with the ball in the opposition half. He excels at using his incredible upper body strength to hold possession up for his team and score his fair share of headed goals in the final third.
The 89-time Belgian international can get himself into some dangerous areas inside the opponent’s penalty area and is usually a lethal finisher in the attacking third. He can also generate a lot of power with his shots on-target but tends to be a bit selfish at times with the ball.
Is Lukaku The Right Choice For Man City?
Currently, Man City are in dire need to recruit a new forward as Sergio Aguero has struggled to prove his fitness this season while Gabriel Jesus has failed to be a consistent and reliable goal-getter at the Etihad Stadium in recent months.
Hence, a centre-forward of Lukaku’s quality will add a lot of goals and physicality to Pep Guardiola’s frontline and would make Man City the firm favourites to win the Premier League title this season. The Belgian sensation has what it takes to be a prolific goal-scorer at the blue half of Manchester, which makes him a good choice for Guardiola to consider during this winter transfer period.
