The Daily Mail has recently reported that Everton are willing to take a chance on Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira. It is believed that the Toffees are prepared to offer the German playmaker an opportunity to redeem himself during this January transfer period or at the end of this campaign when he becomes a free agent (via The Daily Mail).
Khedira’s Fall From Grace In Italian Football
Khedira has spent the entire campaign on the sidelines as he is yet to make an appearance in competitive football this term. The German international is surplus to requirements at the Allianz Stadium after failing to impress Andrea Pirlo this season.
The 33-year-old played a bit-part role at Turin in the previous campaign when he took part in 18 matches, picking up one assist in various competitions. However, he didn’t do enough with his overall contributions in midfield as he was averaging 1.2 tackles, 0.3 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 1.0 shots and 0.7 key passes per match in the 2019-20 Serie A season. At least Khedira was careful when distributing possession from midfield as evident from his pass completion rate of 88.2% in league football (stats via whoscored).
The German sensation desperately needs to seek a move elsewhere in the hopes of securing some regular first-team minutes in the twilight years of his playing career. Carlo Ancelotti could give him that luxury which makes Goodison Park an attractive destination for the player.
What Will The German Midfield Ace Bring To The Table?
Khedira loves a tackle and can be a commanding figure at the centre of the park due to his strong 1.89m frame and hunger to win the ball. He has still got the eye to play a killer pass in the opposition half but is a goal-threat from long range as he tends to pack power with his shot attempts.
The 77-time German international can keep the ball moving with ease and grace in midfield but needs to be more consistent if he wants to stay relevant at the highest level. Khedira has got a wealth of experience which could make him a decent squad player for the Merseyside club if they decide to get him on board in the future.
Will Recruiting Khedira Be A Good Move For The Toffees?
Ancelotti has currently got Abdoulaye Doucoure, Tom Davies, Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph and Allan battling for one of the holding midfield positions in his first-team. A veteran of Khedira’s winning mindset will increase competition for places and help them get better in the years to come.
All in all, landing Khedira this month or next summer could be a clever move for the Merseyside outfit as he will significantly bolster their squad in the short-term. Furthermore, Ancelotti could potentially sign him for free which makes him such a low-risk, high-reward option at the end of this campaign.
