Although the report has clarified that Wolves are interested in former Chelsea man Diego Costa, whether or not moving to the Molineux is something that piques the veteran striker’s interest remains to be seen. The tweet from the experienced journalist claims that the parties have already opened dialogue on the matter and that Wolves have made a serious move to try and bring him back to his former stomping grounds. Now 32, the forward is currently available on a free transfer, in what is sure to come as added motivation for Wolves to make a move.
What Is Wolves’ Current Strike Situation?
The Premier League outfit started the season in decent form, but the unexpected injury to Raul Jimenez in the first part of the campaign threw a massive spanner in Nuno’s plans for the year. The Mexican is, without a shadow of a doubt, Wolves’ most influential player in attack, and with young Fabio Silva as the only other realistic centre-forward option, the manager has been forced to try and improvise. The likes of Pedro Neto and Fabio Silva have both been played in that role over the last few weeks, but it must be conceded that neither is adept at operating as the target man.
What Makes Diego Costa An Attractive Target For Wolves?
The attacker is arguably one of the toughest strikers to defend against in world football, in that he’s both equally intelligent as well as strong. Capable of outmuscling most defenders in Europe, the Brazilian-born striker has the physical presence to strike fear into the hearts of any centre-half he faces. Despite boasting a rather solid frame, it must be conceded that Costa in no slouch, while his finishing ability in the final third is right up there with the best as well. On his day, Diego Costa can be completely unplayable.
Wolves Are Interested In Former Chelsea Man Diego Costa: Should Nuno Go For It?
The veteran striker has been a renowned name around the European game for a number of years now, while the fact that he has past Premier League experience plays a key part as well. The forward has won the Premier League with Chelsea before, which means that there’s no reason to question his ability to perform in the gritty and aggressive nature of the English top-flight. With Wolves on the hunt for a striker to take over the reins from the injured Jimenez, the interest in Costa is understandable and considering what he has achieved in the Premier League in the past, this move would be nothing short of a no-brainer for Wolves.
