Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to bounce back into the winning ways when they play hosts to Leeds United on Saturday. The Lilywhites’ last game against Fulham on Wednesday got postponed due to rising number of Covid-19 cases, sparking anger from Jose Mourinho. However, it has handed his side a much-needed breather in this holiday period – giving them the upper hand heading into this fixture.
Predicted Tottenham Hotspur Lineup Vs Leeds United
Defence
Due to the extended break, Mourinho does have the option of not making too many changes in his starting lineup. However, the Portuguese tactician could be tempted to bring Toby Alderweireld back into the side, at the expense of Davinson Sanchez. The Belgian could thus renew his central defensive partnership alongside Eric Dier.
Matt Doherty was far from impressive in the game against Wolves. But the Irishman remains favourite to get the nod ahead of Serge Aurier at right-back while the return of a back four means Sergio Reguilon could slot back into left-back, at the expense of Ben Davies.
Another player who is set to retain his place in the side is Hugo Lloris. The Frenchman has been performing well this season but will be expecting a busy night against the marauding Leeds United attackers.
Midfield
Mourinho is expected to make just one change in midfield by introducing Moussa Sissoko back into the starting eleven. The ex-Newcastle United star could replace Harry Winks, thus renewing his partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The duo will look to provide defensive cover for the backline while offering additional support for Tanguy Ndombele.
The Frenchman was one of Spurs’ best performers against Wolves and his ability to squeeze past defenders in tight spaces could be useful in evading the intense Leeds United press this weekend. Mourinho doesn’t have any alternatives either, with Giovani Lo Celso struggling from a muscle injury.
Attack
Gareth Bale is expected to remain out on the sidelines for this clash while Lucas Moura is also doubtful, making Steven Bergwijn the favourite to start alongside Son Heung-Min in the wider attacking positions. Erik Lamela is a potential alternative while Mourinho could also deploy Reguilon in a more attacking role by opting for Davies at left-back.
Nevertheless, the Spurs attack should once again be spearheaded by none other than Harry Kane. The Englishman is hoping to extend his scoring tally following a couple of dismal performances in front of goal.
