Chelsea will entertain Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening as they focus on picking up maximum points in this home clash. The Blues were held to a 1-1 draw versus Aston Villa earlier this week, so they will be eager to return to winning ways in the Premier League this weekend.
Frank Lampard could stick with his preferred 4-3-3 formation and might make a few tweaks to his first-team for this contest against Pep Guardiola’s men. Thiago Silva, Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham are all expected to start this game while Andreas Christensen, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Olivier Giroud drop to the bench.
4-3-3 Chelsea Predicted Lineup To Face Manchester City
Defence
Edouard Mendy will feature in goal for the West London outfit after shipping in four goals in his past two league outings. Antonio Rüdiger will probably resume his centre-back partnership with Thiago Silva at the heart of the Chelsea backline as they look to keep Ferran Torres quiet during the game.
Cesar Azpilicueta should continue to feature at right-back while Ben Chilwell looks to give a good account of himself as the left-back. Lampard will ask both of them to maintain a solid shape at the back so that they can limit the chances that Man City create from the wide areas.
James Justin is a significant concern ahead of this game, but Emerson Palmieri will be available for selection on the bench.
Midfield
Lampard could opt for a midfield three of Mason Mount, NGolo Kante and Mateo Kovacic as they look to work hard towards stopping Man City from dominating the battle at the centre of the park. The hard-working trio will also have to find a way to create some inviting chances for their teammates in the opponent’s half.
Jorginho and Billy Gilmour will make up the numbers on the Chelsea bench as they await their opportunity to come on and influence the game in the latter stages if needed.
Attack
Christian Pulisic could get a chance to impress on the left flank while Timo Werner operates as the right-sided wide player. Lampard will rely on both of them to use their pace and cause a few problems for the Man City defenders on the counter.
Tammy Abraham will be a nailed-on starter for the Blues up top. The English striker will lead the line for Chelsea after Olivier Giroud got a start versus the Villans in midweek. The French centre-forward will get a well-deserved rest on the bench this weekend.
