Newcastle United will play hosts to Leicester City at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon looking to pick up a positive result at home. The Magpies managed to grind out a scoreless draw versus Liverpool in their last match, which will give them a lot of confidence heading into this weekend’s clash at Tyneside.
After their defensive performances versus Man City and Liverpool, the Tyneside giants could look to be a little more adventurous with their tactics. Therefore, Steve Bruce will revert to a 4-4-2 formation and might be inclined to make a few changes to his first-team for this upcoming contest against the Foxes. Jonjo Shelvey, Sean Longstaff and Jamal Lewis are all expected to start after they were rested in midweek.
4-4-2 Newcastle United Predicted Lineup To Face Leicester City
Defence
Karl Darlow will lineup in goal for the Magpies following his heroics against the Premier League champions earlier this week. He kept a clean sheet in that game which will keep him in high spirits ahead of the home encounter this Sunday.
Federico Fernandez will resume his defensive partnership with Ciaran Clark at the centre of the Newcastle backline as they try to keep Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy quiet throughout the game. DeAndre Yedlin has been playing well of late and could get another start at right-back while Jamal Lewis comes into the side to fill in on the other flank as the left-back.
Both Emil Krafth and Fabian Schar will offer cover for the defensive positions on Bruce’s bench.
Midfield
Sean Longstaff might get a start along with Jonjo Shelvey at the centre of the park as they focus on disrupting the opposition’s rhythm in midfield. Miguel Almiron will focus on using his electric pace to cause a few problems for the Leicester defenders down the left flank. Matt Ritchie might be deployed on the right-wing as he tries to orchestrate a few decent chances for his teammates in the final third.
Matty Longstaff will have to settle for a place on the bench as they wait for their chance to shine as the impact substitutes if Bruce calls upon their services.
Attack
Joelinton could get the freedom to partner up with Callum Wilson up top. Both of them will get the responsibility to lead the charge for the Magpies up top following their hard-working performance versus the Reds in their last home game.
