West Ham United will clash heads with Southampton at the St. Mary’s Stadium earlier this evening hoping to secure a result away from home. Both teams fought tooth and nail in the first 45 minutes but struggled to make the decisive breakthrough as they went into the half-time break without a goal to show for their efforts.
The Saints tried their best to push for a victory, but the Hammers refused to give up a goal and successfully secured a point after playing out a scoreless draw at the south coast of England.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham player fared during the clash against the Saints.
GK: Łukasz Fabiański – 7.5/10
The West Ham goalie made some important saves to earn a well-deserved clean sheet at the London Stadium. He was also relatively tidy with his ball-distribution during the 90 minutes.
RB: Ryan Fredericks – 8/10
Fredericks made multiple crucial clearances at the back and was a threat going forward as well. Bruce will be quite happy with his performance this evening.
CB: Craig Dawson – 7/10
He did well to slot in at centre-back and made several essential defensive contributions to help his team get over the line with the clean sheet intact.
CB: Angelo Ogbonna – 7/10
Ogbonna was a rock at the back and did not shy away from clearing his lines when needed. It was a solid defensive display from him during the game.
LB: Aaron Cresswell – 6.5/10
He didn’t do much wrong defensively but struggled to make an impact in the opposition half.
CDM: Declan Rice – 7.5/10
Rice sat back in midfield and provided some added protection for his teammates on the defensive end of the field. He did his job well after keeping the Saints attackers frustrated throughout the 90 minutes.
LW: Pablo Fornals – 6/10
The Spanish playmaker worked hard to track back some of the runs made by the Southampton wide players but struggled to give a good account of himself in the final third.
CM: Tomas Soucek – 7.5/10
Soucek performed well to influence the game at both ends of the field. He didn’t take too many risks at the back and was always willing to get some driving runs in the attacking third.
CM: Manuel Lanzini – 6/10
The Argentine sensation failed to get into the game and got replaced close to the hour mark.
RW: Andriy Yarmolenko – 6/10
Yarmolenko made a couple of promising runs but never looked like he had a goal in him.
ST: Sebastien Haller – 6/10
The West Ham forward worked hard but didn’t get too many chances to find the back of the opposition net. It was another frustrating evening for him this evening.
Substitutes:
LW: Said Benrahma – 6/10
He was not afraid to have a shot but didn’t manage to register his name on the scoresheet.
RW: Jarrod Bowen – 6/10
Bowen failed to influence the game in the decisive end of the field.
ST: Michail Antonio – 6/10
The English striker got some valuable minutes under his belt after coming off the bench.
