Everton entertained Manchester United at Goodison Park earlier tonight looking to secure a victory and book a place in the EFL Cup semifinals. Both teams fought tooth and nail in the first 45 minutes but struggled to make the breakthrough as they went into the half-time interval with a goalless scoreline.
The Reds Devils ramped up the pressure in the second half and finally managed to break the Toffees defence down in the 88th minute when Edinson Cavani found the back of the net. Anthony Martial scored another goal for Man United in injury-time as the contest finished 2-0 in favour of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men which knocked the Merseyside outfit out of the EFL Cup.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player fared during the match against the Red Devils.
GK: Robin Olsen – 7/10
The Everton goalkeeper made some important saves to keep the Man United attackers frustrated for major periods of the game. However, he will be disappointed after conceding two late goals tonight.
RB: Seamus Coleman – 6/10
Coleman passed the ball accurately without creating anything of note in the opposition half. He was mostly untroubled defensively during the 90 minutes.
CB: Yerry Mina – 6.5/10
The Toffees centre-half took charge of most situations and cleared his lines when needed. However, all of his hard work was undone as Man United scored two quick-fire goals late in the game.
CB: Michael Keane – 6.5/10
Keane made a couple of crucial interceptions and dealt with the danger when called into action. However, he won’t be happy after shipping in two late goals.
LB: Ben Godfrey – 6.5/10
He made some important clearances during the game and looked quite composed at left-back. However, he failed to be creative with his passing in the opposition half.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 5.5/10
The former Watford midfielder worked tirelessly to offer some added protection for his teammates at the back but failed to influence the game in the final third. He was also quite sloppy with his ball-distribution.
CM: Andre Gomes – 6/10
Gomes had an uneventful game at the centre of the park and got replaced before the hour mark.
RW: Alex Iwobi – 6/10
He created a couple of inviting chances but never looked like he had a goal in him.
CAM: Gylfi Sigurdsson – 7/10
The Icelandic international was always willing to have a strike at goal and was by far, Carlo Ancelotti’s best weapon tonight. However, he ended the match without a goal or an assist to show for his efforts.
LW: Richarlison – 6/10
The Brazilian attacker struggled to get himself involved in the attacking third and was substituted after the half-time break.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 6.5/10
The English marksman worked his socks off but did not get too many chances to get his name on the scoresheet.
Substitutes:
LW: Bernard – 6/10
He looked very average after coming off the bench.
CM: Tom Davies – 5.5/10
Davies struggled to get a foothold in the game.
ST: Cenk Tosun – N/A
The Turkish forward had very little time to make an impact.
