Everton will play hosts to Manchester United at Goodison Park on Wednesday night looking to earn a victory and secure a spot in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup. The Toffees have won three consecutive matches in the Premier League, conceding just one goal in the process. Hence, they will be quietly confident about their chances of success versus the Red Devils in midweek.
Carlo Ancelotti will set his team up in a 4-2-3-1 formation but is expected to make a few tweaks to his first-team for this cup clash at home. The likes of Robin Olsen, Jonjoe Kenny and Bernard could return to the Everton first-team later this week.
4-2-3-1 Everton Predicted Lineup To Face Manchester United
Defence
As mentioned earlier, Robin Olsen will probably get the nod to operate in goal for the Merseyside outfit as Ancelotti might be inclined to rotate his keepers in midweek. Yerry Mina will once again resume his defensive partnership with Michael Keane at the heart of the Toffees backline as they try to stop Man United’s Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani from finding the back of the net.
Jonjoe Kenny could get a start at right-back while Ben Godfrey continues to fill in on the other side as a makeshift left-back. Both of them will have to maintain a solid defensive shape at the back so that they can limit Man United from creating too many chances from the wide areas.
Mason Holgate will be available for selection on the bench but could come on to make an impact in the second 45 minutes if needed.
Midfield
Tom Davies will anchor the midfield along with Abdoulaye Doucoure as they focus on offering adequate protection for their teammates at the back. The talented trio of Bernard, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison will function just ahead of them as part of Ancelotti’s attack. All three attackers will look to interchange possession amongst each other to engineer a few clear-cut goal-scoring opportunities for Dominic Calvert-Lewin up top.
Alex Iwobi might have to settle for a spot on the bench as he awaits his chance to influence the game as a second-half substitute.
Attack
Calvert-Lewin will lead the line for the Toffees down the middle. The English striker is enjoying the best season of his young career, so we can expect him to be a constant menace for the Man United defenders.
Cenk Tosun will make up the numbers on the Everton bench.
