Tottenham Hotspur slip to fourth place in the Premier League table following a 2-0 defeat to Leicester City at home this afternoon. The Lilywhites looked poor right from the beginning and lacked invention in the final third as Brendon Rodgers’ men dug deep and churned out a deserved victory thanks to an own goal from Toby Alderweireld as well as a late first-half penalty from Jamie Vardy.
Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings Vs Leicester City
Hugo Lloris 6/10
Hugo Lloris may have done a better job in stopping James Maddison’s effort, which was ruled out due to a marginal offside call. The Frenchman otherwise had no chance of stopping either of Leicester City’s two goals this afternoon.
Serge Aurier 4/10
Serge Aurier was doing well before he sabotaged Tottenham’s chances in this game by making a rash foul just before half-time, ultimately giving away a silly penalty. Subbed off later in the second half.
Toby Alderweireld 4/10
Toby Alderweireld didn’t have the best of games in central defence. He was rattled by Vardy on more than one occasion, though he was quite unfortunate to have conceded the second goal which deflected off him to find the back of the net.
Eric Dier 6/10
Eric Dier provided the necessary defensive cover needed to see out the Leicester City attacks. He did also deliver some excellent long balls from the back, though most of them were intercepted by the opposing centre-backs.
Sergio Reguilon 6/10
Sergio Reguilon had a difficult time on the left flank. His offensive support was far from accurate, and the Spaniard didn’t have a lot of freedom going forward.
Moussa Sissoko 5/10
It was a poor performance from Moussa Sissoko, who never quite managed to influence the game in midfield. The Frenchman then failed to keep up with Vardy, who scored the second goal just before the hour-mark.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 6.5/10
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was one of the better performers for Tottenham this afternoon. The ex-Southampton man picked up multiple balls in midfield, offering a solid presence in the second line of press. Unfortunately, his efforts weren’t reciprocated by his teammates.
Giovani Lo Celso 5/10
The in-form Giovani Lo Celso had a rather underwhelming game. He was asked to operate in a wider role, where he couldn’t find much freedom and was thus isolated on more than occasion. Got replaced five minutes into the second half.
Tanguy Ndombele 5/10
Tanguy Ndombele struggled to provide that cutting edge in the Tottenham side as Leicester City covered the half-spaces really well. A poor game for him as he was ultimately taken off at half-time as Jose Mourinho opted for more attacking firepower.
Son Heung-Min 6/10
It was a frustrating game for Son Heung-Min, who looked lively but never really managed to consistently penetrate the well-disciplined Leicester City backline. Brendan Rodgers’ men certainly did their homework on the South Korean superstar.
Harry Kane 6/10
Harry Kane had some excellent chances in the game but perhaps should have done better in making use of those opportunities in a game where chances came few and far between. The Englishman will ultimately be disappointed with his performance this afternoon.
SUBSTITUTES
Gareth Bale 5/10
Gareth Bale replaced Ndombele at half-time, as Tottenham looked intent on finding the equaliser. However, the Welshman barely caused any problems for the Leicester City backline.
Lucas Moura 5/10
Lucas Moura offered a lot of energy down the left flank after replacing Lo Celso early in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to unsettle the opposition backline.
Harry Winks 6/10
Replaced Aurier around the hour-mark as Tottenham sought more assurance in the build-up game. The move didn’t make any difference, though.
