In a recent interview (via Express and Star), Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Nuno Espirito Santo hinted that he could be on the hunt to sign a new forward during the January transfer window. The Wolves boss said,
“The transfer window is an opportunity for all the clubs to rebalance their squads.
“It can be with players coming in or going out.
“An open mind, I will not say that, but be aware and react if that’s the case.”
With Raul Jimenez out of action with a long-term injury, Nuno Espirito Santo is currently short of options in his attacking department. The West Midlands have often relied on the services of Fabio Silva in recent weeks while Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto can both play in the centre-forward position as well.
However, as the fixtures come thick and fast in English football, Wolves will have to figure out a way to rotate their squad in the coming weeks. Hence, they can benefit from recruiting a new striker when the transfer window commences at the start of next month.
Here are three forwards Nuno Espirito Santo should target during the winter transfer period.
Divock Origi
The Liverpool striker has often found himself on the bench during his time under Jurgen Klopp. Hence, he could be tempted to seal a move elsewhere either on loan or permanently next month. The Belgian international is far from prolific but has scored some important goals for the Reds including his strike in the UEFA Champions League final last year. He also possesses the versatility to play anywhere across the frontline. An experienced and versatile forward like Origi could go a long way in strengthening Wolves’ attack for the second half of this campaign.
Olivier Giroud
The French striker has got just over six months left to run in his Chelsea contract. Therefore, he could be a good option for Nuno Espirito Santo to consider this winter. Giroud has banged in eight goals in 14 appearances for the Blues this season, so he could inject a lot of quality to the young Wolves’ attack in the injury absence of Jimenez. The lure of regular first-team football might be too appealing for the French striker to turn down if Wolves decide to launch a move to bring him to the Molineux Stadium next month.
Myron Boadu
Boadu has emerged as one of AZ Alkmaar’s most promising prospects this season. He has registered three goals and one assist in 15 appearances for the Dutch outfit this term across all competitions. The 19-year-old is destined to have a very bright future in European football, so if Nuno Espirito Santo is looking for another exciting young forward, then he could choose to make a move for Boadu. The Dutch forward will be a signing for the long-run and would also provide some healthy competition for Fabio Silva as they develop under the watchful eyes of Nuno Espirito Santo in the coming seasons.
