Manchester United will clash heads with Leeds United at the Old Trafford on Sunday evening looking to pick up a positive result and improve upon their home form. The Red Devils came from behind for the sixth away game in a row to secure an impressive 3-2 win over Sheffield United in midweek which will keep their confidence high heading into Matchday 14 of the Premier League.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation with a few tweaks from their last game. Scott McTominay might get the nod over Nemanja Matic whereas David De Gea looks likely to make his way back into the starting XI.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Leeds United
Defence
As mentioned earlier, David De Gea will return to feature in between the sticks replacing Dean Henderson. Ole, in his post-match press conference, explained why he chose to go with the English goalkeeper for the clash at Bramall Lane.
“It’s one I had pencilled in for him early on. David did really well against City, it’s not anything to do with that [form].”
Victor Lindelof will continue to partner Harry Maguire at the heart of United’s backline as they try to neutralise Leeds’ attacking threats throughout the ninety minutes. Ole could opt for more defensive options on the pitch against Bielsa’s men, and hence, Luke Shaw might start at the left-back position replacing Alex Telles. Aaron Wan-Bissaka will continue to fill in on the other side as the right-back.
Midfield
Pogba could retain his spot in the starting line-up after a streak of impressive performances at the centre of the park.
McTominay is expected to start over Matic as the defensive midfielder whereas Bruno Fernandes will play as the attacking midfielder. The Portuguese playmaker has been in exceptional form lately and will be determined to set up some decent goal-scoring chances for his teammates.
Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood will take up the wide positions, looking to stretch their side’s attack and simultaneously cut inside when given the space and opportunity.
Donny Van De Beek will have to be content for a place on the bench but might come on in the second half if needed.
Attack
Anthony Martial will lead the line for the home side on Sunday. The Frenchman finally found the back of the net against Chris Wilder’s men and could get his name on the scoresheet again if provided with the adequate service.
