Aston Villa entertained Burnley hoping to pick up another positive result at Villa Park earlier this evening. Both teams fought tooth and nail in the first 45 minutes but struggled to make the decisive breakthrough as they went into the half-time break with nothing to split them.
The Villans dominated the game for major periods of the second half but couldn’t break the Clarets defence down as the contest finished scoreless with both sides sharing the spoils at the West Midlands this evening.
Let’s take a look at how each Aston Villa player fared during the match against the Clarets.
GK: Emiliano Martínez – 7/10
The Villans shot-stopper did his job well when called into action and secured a comfortable clean sheet at home. However, he lacked accuracy with his ball-distribution out from the back.
RB: Ahmed Elmohamady – 7.5/10
Elmohamady stood up to the test defensively and was a real threat going forward. He created several promising chances for his teammates to score during the 90 minutes.
CB: Kortney Hause – 7.5/10
The talented centre-half made multiple important clearances throughout the game and was a rock at the back for his team. Hause will be happy with the clean sheet this evening.
CB: Tyrone Mings – 7.5/10
Like his centre-back partner, he didn’t give away too much defensively but was guilty of missing a glorious opportunity to win the game with his header in the dying embers of the clash.
LB: Matt Targett – 6/10
The English left-back performed his defensive duties well but lacked the cutting edge in the opposition half.
CM: John McGinn – 6.5/10
The Scottish midfield ace kept the ball moving very well at the centre of the park but struggled to create too many openings for others around him.
CM: Marvelous Nakamba – 6.5/10
He was a tidy passer of the ball and shielded his backline well during the game. However, he lacked invention with his ball-distribution in the opposition half.
RW: Bertrand Traoré – 7/10
Traore was not afraid to have a strike at goal and was a constant menace for the Burnley defenders. However, he will be disappointed for not getting his name on the scoresheet.
CAM: Jack Grealish – 7.5/10
The Villa captain hardly gave away the ball and orchestrated a plethora of decent goal-scoring chances in the final third. However, he struggled to find the finishing touch in front of goal.
LW: Ahmed El Ghazi – 8/10
El Ghazi wreaked a lot of havoc from the left flank and was always willing to have a strike at goal. He also engineered quite a few inviting opportunities for his teammates to find the back of the net.
ST: Ollie Watkins – 6/10
Watkins didn’t have his shooting boots on but deserves credit for working hard and not giving up.
Substitutes:
ST: Keinan Davis – 5/10
He struggled to get into the game after coming off the bench.
