Tottenham Hotspur clashed heads with Liverpool at Anfield earlier tonight hoping to pick up something from this match on the road. Spurs were negative in the first 45 minutes and were unfortunate to concede the opening goal in the 26th minute when Mohamed Salah’s attempt saw the ball deflect into the empty net. However, the visitors scored the leveller just seven minutes later when Heung-Min Son found the back of the net with a neat finish.
The Merseyside outfit dominated the game for major periods of the second half and finally managed to net the winner in the 90th minute via Roberto Firmino’s goal. The match ended with the North London outfit suffering a disappointing 2-1 loss at Anfield.
Let’s take a look at how each Tottenham player performed during the clash against the Reds.
GK: Hugo Lloris – 7.5/10
The French keeper had to make some solid stops to keep his side in the game but ended up conceding two goals which he couldn’t do much about.
RB: Serge Aurier – 6/10
He used his body to go to the ground quite often but did enough work defensively to neutralise the threat of Sadio Mane during the 90 minutes.
CB: Toby Alderweireld – 5/10
Alderweireld was unfortunate to see the ball deflect off him into his own net in the lead-up to Salah’s goal in the first half. He also lost track of Firmino’s run in the 90th minute which ultimately cost his team the game.
CB: Eric Dier – 7/10
Dier was a rock at the back and dealt with everything that came his way besides the two Liverpool goals. Mourinho will be quite happy with his performance tonight.
LB: Ben Davies – 6/10
Davies stuck with Salah like glue and did a decent job at left-back without venturing forward too many times during the game.
CM: Pierre-Emile Højbjerg – 6/10
The ex-Southampton midfielder did the defensive dirty work in midfield but got cautioned for pulling Firmino’s shirt in the second half.
CM: Moussa Sissoko – 6/10
He worked hard but gave away the ball too many times in midfield.
LW: Heung-min Son – 7/10
The South Korean international kept his composure to score the equalising goal in the 33rd minute. Otherwise, he hardly got a sniff at goal.
CAM: Giovani Lo Celso – 7/10
Lo Celso was the only one of the Tottenham players looking to penetrate the Liverpool defence with his quick passes on the counter. He linked up play well but was often outnumbered by the Liverpool players.
RW: Steven Bergwijn – 5/10
Bergwijn missed a couple of excellent opportunities to give his team the lead, which ended up costing his side.
ST: Harry Kane – 5/10
The English striker missed a sitter from close range when he could not direct his header on target despite being completely open in the middle of Allison’s six-yard box. Otherwise, he had a relatively quiet game up top.
Substitutes:
RM: Lucas Moura – 6.5/10
He was a real threat on the counter.
LM: Sergio Reguilon – 5/10
Reguilon struggled to get into the game.
CAM: Dele Alli – N/A
He didn’t have enough time to make an impact.
