In a recent report, The Daily Mirror has revealed that Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is eager to move in for Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Dele Alli in January. It is understood that the Toffees boss is a big admirer of the England international and could launch a move to secure his signature during the winter transfer window (via The Daily Mirror).
Alli’s Growing Frustrations In English Football Recently
Alli has fallen out of favour with Spurs manager Jose Mourinho and is struggling to get regular playing minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season. He has found the back of the net twice and provided one assist in eight appearances for the North London outfit this term across various competitions.
However, the Milton Keynes-born sensation has been starved of first-team chances in the Premier League this season which has made his long-term future at the English capital quite uncertain. Alli has failed to give a good account of himself on a consistent basis as he is averaging 1.2 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League and the group stages of the UEFA Europa League. He can also improve his ball-distribution after completing 77.9% of his attempted passes in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
Alli will be desperate to earn regular playing minutes if he wants to make a late push for a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the UEFA European Championship finals next year. Hence, he would welcome an opportunity to seal a move to Goodison Park where he should have a better chance to play week in week out.
What Will The English Midfield Ace Bring To Merseyside?
On his day, Alli can be a real game-changer on the field as he possesses the quality to retain possession in tight spaces and set-up some chances for his teammates in the final third. He is a talented dribbler and is not shy of having a strike from long range as he can generate a lot of power and dip with his attempts at goal.
However, the 37-time England international has to find a way to be more consistent with his productivity in the attacking third. At 24, he is about to embark upon the prime years of his playing career, so Ancelotti would fancy his chances of getting the best out of him at Merseyside if the Italian tactician can get a deal over the line for him next month.
Alli has all the attributes required to be a regular feature in Everton’s attack and will bolster their squad depth significantly in the coming seasons. Thus, Ancelotti should try everything he can to engineer a move to bring the Spurs outcast to the north-west of England in January.
