Premier League giants Manchester City qualified to the knockout stages of the Champions League as the outright leaders of Group C. Pep Guardiola’s men beat Ligue 1 side Marseille by a 3-0 scoreline, after a rampant second-half display saw the English side completely outplay the French outfit. Although the Citizens didn’t produce a very good first half of football at all, goals from Ferrard Torres, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling meant that the team from Manchester progressed to the next round without facing defeat even once in the group stages.

Zack Steffen – 7
Apart from a short spell towards the latter stages of the first-half where he made a couple of smart saves, the young keeper had a rather comfortable outing in between the sticks for City.
Kyle Walker – 7
Defended as well as he usually does and tracked back effectively when called into action. Got forward when possible and produced a venomous shot that troubled the Marseille keeper.
Eric Garcia – 6
Didn’t do much wrong in the first-half but he was hauled off with an injury before the half-hour mark.
Aymeric Laporte – 7
The Frenchman was rock solid in the heart of defence as he didn’t allow the Marseille attackers too much space to run in behind. Didn’t make mistakes and looked good for the most part.
Nathan Ake – 6.5
The former Chelsea man was deployed in one of the full-back roles tonight, and he did look uncomfortable on a number of occasions. Tried to get forward and impact the fixture though.
Fernandinho – 7
The Brazilian veteran protected the back-line very efficiently, and was always in the right place, making some key interceptions as well.
Ilkay Gundogan – 7
The German was surprisingly taken off at half-time by Guardiola, in what appeared to be a tactical substitution. He didn’t have a bad half at all and actually looked like one of their better players.
Riyad Mahrez – 7
The former Leicester City man produced a peach of a pass to release Torres in the lead up to the Citizens’ first goal. Couldn’t impact the tie as much as he would’ve liked but looked good.
Bernardo Silva – 8
The Portuguese trickster was undoubtedly the best player on the pitch tonight, as he kept the ball moving and created some excellent attacking situations. Made some sharp runs in the final third.
Phil Foden – 6
The youngster didn’t have his most influential game in the final third, although he did look much better in the second half. Played some good passes but never looked overly penetrative.
Ferran Torres – 6.5
The Spanish speedster started the game as the central striker, and his lack of comfort was apparent to see. Did well to score the opening goal of the tie but didn’t offer that much else in attack.
Substitutes
John Stones – 7.5
The English centre-half’s confidence seems to be increasing week after week as he put in yet another solid display in the heart of defence. Carried the ball out at times and looked rather sharp.
Raheem Sterling – 6
The Englishman came on at the break but didn’t have too much of an impact in the final third. Was jolly on the spot to tap in the third goal after a fortunate bobble made it fall for him.
Sergio Aguero – 6.5
Didn’t have too much to do after coming on but did well to be in the right place at the right time to poke home the home side’s second goal of the evening. Made some good runs as well.
