In a recent report, Eurosport has mentioned that West Ham United could show interest in recruiting Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen in January. It is believed that the Danish playmaker could be allowed to leave this winter which could open the door for the Hammers to seal a move for him when the transfer window reopens next month (via Eurosport).
Eriksen’s Growing Frustrations At Milan This Season
The Middelfart-born talent has endured a frustrating season at the San Siro after struggling to earn game time in Antonio Conte’s first-team. Eriksen has made ten appearances for the Italian giants but is yet to score or assist a goal this season.
The experienced Danish international has failed to be productive with his all-around contributions at the centre of the park as he is averaging 0.6 tackles, 0.4 interceptions, 0.7 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in this Serie A campaign. His numbers have been poor because most of his league appearances have come off the bench. At least, the 28-year-old has been tidy with his ball-distribution as evidenced by his pass success rate of 85.4% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Barring any injuries, it is difficult to see how Eriksen will be able to earn regular starts under Conte’s stewardship this season. Hence, it makes sense for him to switch clubs during the winter transfer window in search of more playing minutes in the coming seasons.
What Will The Denmark International Bring To The London Stadium?
Eriksen has a got a wide range of passes in his locker and usually works his socks off for the benefit of his side. He can even strike the ball with power and precision that makes him a goal-threat from long range. However, what made Eriksen such a great player during his heydays at Tottenham Hotspur was his incredible vision to play some decisive passes in the final third.
There is no hiding from the fact that the lack of game time is affecting with Eriksen’s confidence, so he could be tempted with the chance to rejoin the Premier League if West Ham decide to seal a move for him in January.
Will Eriksen Be A Decent Option For David Moyes?
The Hammers have currently got Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek anchoring their midfield while the likes of Mark Noble, Manuel Lanzini and Robert Snodgrass are serving as their back-ups in Moyes’ match-day squads this season. However, none of them are known for their playmaking in midfield. Hence, Eriksen could turn out to be an excellent option for them in the mid-season transfer period as he will add a lot of quality to the West Ham midfield.
Plus, the 103-time Denmark international has previously proven his worth in the Premier League. Therefore, he won’t take much time settling into life in England if he ends up joining the Hammers next month.
