Real Madrid have returned to winning ways with a clinical 1-0 victory at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan against Sevilla. Zidane’s side took the lead after a dangerous looking ball from Mendy got the slightest of touches from Vinicius Jr, which was enough to distract Sevilla goalie, Bono, who scrambled the ball across the line.
Real have jumped up to the third position following this victory from the trip to Andalusia. Los Blancos’ greater challenges for December still awaits them in Borussia Monchengladbach and Atletico Madrid.
The two teams went into the half time break level pegged, and it became an uphill task for Sevilla when Real found the back of the net post the commencement of the second half. Interestingly, Zidane did not want to tweak around much with his starting eleven and made only one substitution. Here’s how Real Madrid were rated in their 1-0 victory Vs Sevilla.
Real Madrid Players Rated From Their 1-0 Victory Vs Sevilla
GK: Thibaut Courtois – 8/10
The Belgian shot-stopper was drawn into the action on a couple of occasions, and he responded appropriately each time. Courtois would be delighted with the clean-sheet.
RB: Lucas Vasquez – 7/10
Vasquez was industrious down the right-hand side. The Spaniard put in a hard shift and kept the Sevilla attack at bay throughout the game.
CB: Raphael Varane – 8/10
The Frenchman put up a commanding display in the heart of Madrid’s defence. Zidane would be pleased with the work rate shown by Varane until the fulltime whistle.
CB: Nacho – 7/10
A satisfactory evening for Nacho who seemed to be doing a little too much with the ball when Madrid had possession. The Spaniard even tried a few Sergio Ramos like passes which squandered possession away on a couple of occasions. Apart from that, Nacho had a pleasant outing in Seville.
LB: Ferland Mendy – 8/10
Mendy was right on top of his game and barely let any Sevilla player past him. The Frenchman also showed brilliant composure high up the pitch and put in a sumptuous ball into the box which allowed Real to take the lead.
CM: Luka Modric – 8/10
The Croatian had the game by his clutches and barely kept a foot wrong all evening. Modric orchestrated the play from midfield to his own charismatic tune. Modric picked a yellow card for a lazy challenge in the second half.
CM: Casemiro – 8/10
The Tank was pivotal in midfield for Zidane. Casemiro aided the back-line from the first whistle to the last, and the absence of Sergio Ramos was barely noticed. The Brazillian also seemed neat while taking on the attacking duties.
CM: Toni Kroos – 8/10
Kroos was a joy to watch today as he toyed around with the Sevilla players. The ace midfielder paired up extremely well with his partner in crime, Luka Modric.
RW: Rodrygo – 7/10
The Brazilian was heavily involved in the game until Marco Asensio was brought on to replace him. Rodrygo constantly drew in challenges and seemed to be hard done by the referee on a couple of occasions.
ST: Karim Benzema – 7/10
A tedious performance from Benzema who seemed to be taking the initiative in attack as he dropped deep to pick up the ball. The striker certainly missed scoring a goal on this occasion.
LW: Vinicius Jr – 8/10
Vinicius was a constant threat down the left-hand side. However, the pacey attacker’s decision making in the final third raised a few eyebrows. Nevertheless, Vinicius’ touch forced an error from Sevilla goalie, Bono, which eventually sealed the three points for Los Blancos.
Substitutes
RW: Marco Asensio – 7/10
Asensio put in a spirited performance post coming on, and he even dropped deep to aid out the Real back-line.
