Premier League high-flyers Chelsea will be looking to get back to winning ways when they travel to Spain to take on Sevilla in the Champions League this Wednesday. The Blues are coming into this tie on the back of a frustrating goalless draw against Tottenham on the weekend, where Jose Mourinho’s side seemingly set out to frustrate Lampard’s men from start to finish. Chelsea actually had the ball in the back of the net in the first-half, before Timo Werner was judged to have been offside in the lead up to the goal.
Chelsea and Sevilla have both secured qualification into the knockout stages of the Champions League, having picked up ten points each from their four group stage matches so far. The only time that either team has dropped points in Europe was against each other, when the pair of them played out a drab stalemate at Stamford Bridge. A win for either team would put them in the driver’s seat in terms of the group, which means that there’s enough incentive for both to try and push for the win.
Team News
As far as injuries go, Frank Lampard’s side have nothing to worry about going into this clash. The only concern might come in the form of Tammy Abraham, after the Englishman limped off the pitch during the game against Tottenham. The other concern that Chelsea have had over the last few weeks was that of Christian Pulisic, but the American returned to the team in the weekend Spurs game, which means that he’s now in contention to start this match as well.
Here Is The Predicted 4-3-3 Chelsea Lineup Vs Sevilla:
Predicted 4-3-3 Chelsea Lineup Vs Sevilla
Defence
Edouard Mendy’s consistency and shot-stopping abilities have been the talk of the town around Stamford Bridge for a while now, and in the current situation, there’s no way that he gets dropped from the eleven. In front him as well, Lampard could be tempted to stick with the system that has been working so well for him over recent weeks. The centre-half combination of Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva seems to be doing the trick, with Ben Chilwell and Reece James set to continue in the full-back roles.
Midfield
This is where Lampard could look to change things from their weekend game, as Mateo Kovacic is likely to drop down to the bench. Jorginho could be given the nod in the middle of the park, where the Italian will be responsible for ensuring that the balls keeps swinging from side to side. Expect N’Golo Kante to start this fixture as well, albeit in a slightly more advanced role than usual. Mason Mount, being the initiator of Chelsea’s press, is set to remain in the eleven for this match as well.
Attack
The Blues’ attack-line is undoubtedly one of the best in the competition when in full flow, and the number of options that Lampard has to choose from is sure to be the envy of teams all over the continent as well. Christian Pulisic’s return to full fitness means that he’s in line to start, while Hakim Ziyech could be given a deserved rest. Kai Havertz could instead be given the nod over on the right flank. With no clarity on the situation of Tammy Abraham, it wouldn’t be overly surprising to see Lampard moving Timo Werner into the number nine role for this European encounter.
