Everton faced off against Leeds United at Goodison Park earlier this evening looking to pick maximum points at home. Both teams fought tooth and nail in the first 45 minutes but struggled to make the decisive breakthrough as they went into the half-time break with nothing to show for their efforts.
The Whites finally managed to score the opener in 79th minute courtesy of Raphinha’s goal. The contest ended with the Merseyside outfit suffering a disappointing 1-0 loss at the hands of Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player performed during the match against the Whites.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 7/10
The English keeper made a few important saves for his side but will be disappointed after conceding a late goal which ended up making the difference.
CB: Ben Godfrey – 6.5/10
Godfrey made several clearances during the game to come to his side’s rescue. He also blocked a couple of shots and was strong in the air.
CB: Michael Keane – 5.5/10
The ex-Burnley defender had a couple of nervy moments in defence and was quite untidy with his ball-distribution out from the back. However, he was not shy of clearing his lines when required.
CB: Mason Holgate – 5/10
The Toffees captain was quite vocal at the back, but it was far from a convincing defensive performance from him today.
RM: Tom Davies – 7/10
He was played out of position but did well to track back and help out in defence when needed. He also created a great chance in the first half.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 5.5/10
Doucoure was not afraid to go in for tackles but gave away the ball far too often in what was a disjointed performance from him at the centre of the park.
CM: Allan – 7/10
The Brazilian midfield ace gave a good account of himself in the opposition half. He orchestrated a couple of decent goal-scoring opportunities during the game but didn’t do much work defensively.
LM: Alex Iwobi – 5/10
Iwobi returned to his own shell once again after last weekend’s encouraging performance versus Fulham. He worked hard defensively but failed to create anything meaningful going forward.
RW: James Rodriguez – 7/10
The South American sensation was quite lively during the game but was unfortunate to see his goal ruled out in the first 45 minutes. He was a constant menace for the opposition as he engineered multiple chances for his teammates around him.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 5/10
The English marksman was mostly isolated but did well to challenge for a lot of loose balls in the air. However, he was unusually quiet in front of the Leeds goal.
LW: Richarlison – 6/10
The Brazilian attacker produced a bright display in the first half, but his influence faded as the match went on after the half-time break.
Substitutes:
LB: Fabian Delph – 5/10
The ex-Manchester City talent had to fill in as a makeshift left-back and looked like he was a player being played out of position.
CM: Andre Gomes – 5/10
Gomes struggled to get himself involved in the game.
LW: Bernard – N/A
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
