Premiership giants Rangers dropped further points in the Europa League after a 2-2 draw against Benfica. The Ibrox club were in the ascendancy over the course of the first-half, and they took a deserved early lead through Scott Arfield. Despite Kemar Roofe’s explosive strike in the second half, Rangers were unable to see out the win, and as it was in their last clash against the Portuguese side, Benfica came back with two goals in the final twenty minutes of action. Despite the draw, Standard Liege’s win in the other fixture means that Rangers are still sitting in a dominant position in the group.
Here Are The Rangers Player Ratings Vs Benfica:
Rangers Player Ratings Vs Benfica
Allan McGregor – 6
The veteran shot-stopper had very little to do in terms of making saves tonight, as the away side didn’t produce even a single shot on target until well after the hour mark. Dealt with crosses well.
James Tavernier – 5.5
The skipper didn’t have his most influential game, but some of his defensive contributions were important. Allowed some crosses into the area and should’ve dealt with things ahead of the Benfica opener.
Connor Goldson – 6.5
The Englishman never looked overly flustered by the Benfica attacking, as he controlled the back-line in a rather efficient manner. Won a number of key headers but lost the ball on a couple of instances.
Leon Balogun – 8
The Nigerian centre-half was a perpetual rock at the back for Gerrard’s side tonight, as he made a few key tackles and interceptions over the course of the ninety. Couldn’t have done much about the goals.
Borna Barisic – 7
The Croatian international full-back did a solid defensive job for the most part tonight, and he didn’t shrink away from his responsiblities while attacking either. Linked up well with Kent and tried to create openings in the final third.
Glen Kamara – 8
The Finnish midfielder was classy on the ball tonight as he passed it around rather efficiently. Never looked flustered in the possession and worked hard in the defensive phase too.
Steven Davis – 7
Offered a rather calm and collected presence in the middle of the park tonight, as he passed the ball around with great confidence. Covered the core of the pitch well and worked hard tracking back as well.
Scott Arfield – 7.5
The midfielder continued his fine run of form to hand Steven Gerrard’s men an early lead in the first half. Kept his composure in possession and tried to create an opening for teammates over the ninety too.
Kemar Roofe – 8.5
The Jamaican striker, despite not being effective all night, showed the quality that he possesses in the attack. Made some good forward runs and scored his second half goal in explosive fashion.
Alfredo Morelos – 7
The Colombian striker picked up some good positions over the course of the tie and linked up well with the rest of the attackers as well. Looked lively and chased the ball down in the final third too.
Ryan Kent – 6.5
The English speedster wasn’t at his usual fluent best down the left flank tonight, but he did cause the Benfica defence line some problems with his movement and dribbling abilities.
