In a recent interview (via Football.London), Chelsea boss Frank Lampard issued a positive update involving Christian Pulisic when he said, “Christian [Pulisic] stays back and doesn’t travel, but the good news is that he has had aggression in the last week. The reason he has stayed back is to get some physical work in so hopefully that will have him ready for selection come the weekend and onwards.”
Lampard gave the update before his side went on to secure an impressive 2-1 victory versus Rennes away at Roazhon Park on Tuesday night which secured their progression into the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.
Pulisic’s Stop-Start Campaign At Stamford Bridge
Pulisic has made a slow start to this season as he has missed a lot of games because of a hamstring injury. The 22-year-old has featured in five matches for the Blues this term, scoring just once in the process in all competitions.
The ex-Bundesliga attacker enjoyed a wonderful campaign under Frank Lampard’s tutelage in the last term when he registered 11 goals and ten assists in 34 matches for the West London outfit on all fronts. He was quite productive with his performances on the offensive end of the field based on his average of 2.5 shots, 1.2 key passes and 2.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. Pulisic also distributed the ball accurately as he completed 79.9% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football last season (stats via whoscored)
As long as Pulisic can overcome his recent injury concerns and show a clean bill of health, he is destined to have a very prosperous career at Stamford Bridge. His return from injury will be a timely boost for anyone associated with the West London club going into the winter months when the fixtures tend to pile up in English football.
What Does The United States International Add To Lampard’s Team?
Pulisic is one of the quickest players in Lampard’s squad and is usually a dangerous dribbler with the ball out on the wide areas. He excels at leaving his marker to bite the dust using his pace, agility, ball control and dribbling ability.
The former Borussia Dortmund ace has shown in the recent past that he can be a regular scorer and creator of goals in the Premier League. He is even versatile enough to feature anywhere across the frontline which makes him such a valuable member of the Chelsea squad.
Pulisic Set To Comeback Soon: Big Boost For The Blues?
Now that Lampard has revealed that Pulisic could be in contention for this weekend or the matches after, it will be a welcome bit of news for the Blues supporters ahead of a busy few months in Premier League football. Pulisic has got the ability to win matches on his own, so having him back will be a big boost for Lampard and his plans for the remainder of this campaign.
