A dismal start to the Premier League campaign has jeopardized Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s future at Old Trafford. But the Manchester United boss has the full backing of the board (as revealed by Ed Woodward recently) and according to the Mirror, the club might explore the opportunity of roping in Sami Khedira who has revealed his ‘big dream’ of becoming a ‘Premier League player’ while speaking to Sky Germany.
Why Manchester United Are The Most Suited Destination For Khedira
The 33-year-old Die Mannschaft international is not in manager Andrea Pirlo’s plan and is likely to seek an exit in January, six months prior to his contract expiration in Piedmont. This has alerted the Red Devils over a potential winter swoop for the midfield maestro who enjoyed his successful years in Spain with Real Madrid under Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho.
“I am really happy and satisfied with my career until now but one thing is still missing because I always had this dream and it has never come true… to be a part of the Premier League. I have watched so many Premier League games since I was young and even now I am following the Premier League a lot.”
Khedira said which is rather a ‘come-and-get-me’ plea to his potential English suitors. He spoke highly of both Mourinho and Ancelotti as well who are currently in charge of Tottenham Hotspur and Everton, however, the Manchester Reds are touted to be the most suitable destination with Solskjær’s keenness in renowned experienced stars having already roped in Edinson Cavani on a Bosman.
The growing tension over Paul Pogba’s future remains a worry as the flamboyant Frenchman has refuelled speculations while on international duty. Nemanja Matic has not been consistent either whereas Scott McTominay, despite his grit and commitment towards his boyhood side, has not shown enough composure to orchestrate the show from a deep-lying slot.
Gamble Worth The Risk?
The Red Devils are blessed to have lethal attacking options in Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Edinson Cavani and Bruno Fernandes. Also, the presence of Donny van de Beek and Juan Mata brings in more creativity high up the pitch. But they need someone to pull the string from behind and a player of Khedira’s profile can’t be overlooked considering his trophy-laden career.
Having said that, Manchester United must analyze a few aspects before opting for Khedira. The German veteran had fitness woes in recent years and has not played a single minute of football so far this term since Pirlo’s appointment as Maurizio Sarri’s successor. A similar transfer failed miserably when they tied down Bastian Schweinsteiger a few seasons back and it is to be seen now whether they step up interest in the Juventus outcast.
