Real Madrid have bounced back to winning ways with a 4-1 victory over Huesca following a hiccup midweek against Borrusia Monchengladbach.
The Whites had a rather slow start to the game but managed to bulldoze their way past a tame looking Huesca side. The visitors highlighted the opening in Madrid’s defence early on in the game but Sergio Ramos & Co. always managed to avert the storm.
Eden Hazard broke the dead-lock for Zidane’s side just before the forty-minute mark and Karim Benzema also found the back of the net in quick succession. The Whites entered the tunnel at half time with a healthy and comfortable two-goal advantage.
Zidane sought help from his bench almost immediately after the restart of play and brought in four players within 15 minutes. The visitors did pull a goal back in the form of David Ferreiro in the 74th minute. However, it was too little too late. Karim Benzema pounced onto a header from Rodrygo in the closing minutes of the game to grab his second goal of the night.
Here’s how Real Madrid players are rated in their 4-1 victory over Huesca.
GK : Thibaut Courtois – 7/10
The Belgian goalie was drawn into action a couple of times but remained a spectator for large chunks of the game. Courtois would be gutted about not being able to keep a clean-sheet.
RB : Lucas Vasquez – 7/10
A content performance from Vasquez who seemed to do a decent job in the absence of Carvajal.
CB : Eder Militao – 7/10
A motivated and energetic performance from Militao who was replacing Varane in the starting eleven today. Zidane will be assured by the Brazilian’s performance.
CB : Sergio Ramos – 8/10
The captain put up a strong and commanding display as always. Ramos will be satisfied with his team’s performance heading into a crunch fixture against Inter Milan.
LB : Marcelo – 8/10
A vibrant display from Marcelo after being called up into the starting eleven. The Brazilian was a constant threat in attack down the left-hand side and was crucial in the build-up to the fourth goal.
CM : Federico Valverde – 8/10
The Uruguayan midfielder had a good hour or so in the Spanish capital. He made his appearance special with a fine finish in the second half to give Los Blancos a three-goal advantage over Huesca.
CM : Casemiro – 6/10
A sub-par performance from Casemiro in comparison to his standards. Casemiro was replaced by Toni Kroos in the second half.
CM : Luka Modric – 8/10
Luka Modric orchestrated the midfield extremely well and did not make the absence of Toni Kroos from the playing eleven even noticeable. The Croatian wizard seems to be getting better with age as his recent streak of impressive displays in the Los Blancos shirt grows.
RW : Marco Asensio – 7/10
A good display put up by Asensio who has become an integral part of this Real Madrid squad in recent games. Keeping in mind the fixture against Inter, the Spaniard was taken off around the sixty-minute mark to be replaced by Isco.
ST : Karim Benzema – 9/10
A sensational performance from Karim Benzema who toiled hard for his two goals. The striker will be massively relieved with his performance after coming in the line of fire from the critics lately.
LW : Eden Hazard – 8/10
After a nervous and rusty start, Hazard seemed to grow into the fixture. He scored an absolute screamer just before the half time mark to give Real Madrid a lead in the tie. Hazard was also instrumental in the build-up to the third goal where his delicate back-heel pass unlocked the Huesca defence for Benzema and Valverde to pounce on.
Substitutes
RB : Ferland Mendy – 7/10
Mendy had a rather bleak evening down the right-hand side and did not seem extremely comfortable playing there.
RW : Vinicius Jr – 7/10
Vinicius made some impressive runs post coming on and even tried linking up with Karim Benzema on a couple of occasions.
LW : Rodrygo – 7/10
Earned himself an assist in the dying moments of the fixture after replacing Asensio.
CM : Isco – 7/10
In a brief thirty minute appearance, Isco seemed to be right on his heels as he made the Huesca defence dance to his tune.
CM : Toni Kroos – NA
Did not have much impact post coming on.
