According to a recent report by the Daily Record, Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has admitted that he will depart Parkhead to move to a bigger league when the time is right. It had been clarified by Sussex Live earlier in the season that a host of Premier League clubs were interested in the attacker, but unfortunately for him, none of them seemed to take shape in time. The forward was the Celts’ record signing when he joined for £9m from Paris Saint Germain, having already spent a season on loan at the renowned Scottish club.
Although it has been clarified by his agent that Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard will eventually move on from Parkhead, whether or not that could happen in the near future remains to be seen. Speaking on the matter due to a French television interview with Telefoot, the French attacker said, “I’ve been here for three years, and for sure when the time comes I’ll think about leaving, look for a higher league. Right now I’m focused on this season and when the right time comes I’ll make the decision to go.”
What Has Edouard Achieved Since Making The Switch To Parkhead?
The forward arrived at the Scottish giants as a prospective player for the future, and it must be conceded that few would’ve predicted the kind of form he would go on to display for them in the long run. Not only has he managed to make the centre-forward role his own when fully fit, but he has seemingly set the benchmark that the Celtic faithful judge all their new strikers by. As good as this is, it does increase the pressure on incoming signings to perform up to the standard, with the expectations being placed on Albian Ajeti the perfect example.
Edouard was quick to make a name for himself in Scotland, as he played in 19 league outings within his first season on loan at the club. Although he scored only six goals in the Premiership during that stint, the Celtic staff had already seen enough of him to understand that they had something special on their hands. Their decision to sign him permanently bore fruit within his first year as a Celtic player, as he went on to score 14 times in 28 league clashes, with an additional five goals across the European competitions as well. This trend improved even further during the 19/20 campaign, as he notched up 21 league goals from 27 appearances.
What Is Edouard’s Situation At Celtic Right Now?
The Frenchman, for all the undoubtable quality that he has got, has failed to live up to his billing this time around. While it must be conceded that injury woes have had a major part to play in his lack of effectiveness this season, the scarcity of goals from the matches he has played is sure to be a concern. He has featured just seven times in the league since the start of the campaign, while the arrival of Swiss striker Albian Ajeti has done little to help his cause as well. Unless things improve drastically in the near future, there’s every chance that Edouard could fall down the pecking order.
Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard Will Eventually Move On From Parkhead: Should Lennon Cash In Soon?
While there’s no denying that Edouard has struggled to live up to expectations so far this season, it must also be taken into account that he is, without a doubt, their most prolific attacker. Yes, Ajeti has scored a few key goals for them this season, but it doesn’t take anything away from the fact that Edouard is still their best striking option. If the player himself chooses to move on in the near future, it’s likely that Celtic won’t stand in his way, but if the decision is up to the club, then they mustn’t even consider cashing in on him anytime soon.
