Manchester City will face off against Olympique Marseille at the Orange Velodrome in midweek hoping to secure another three points in the UEFA Champions League. Pep Guardiola’s men managed to get the better of FC Porto by a 3-1 scoreline earlier this month, so another win could put them in pole position in Group C to earn progression into the knockout stages of the competition.
The Mancunian giants will opt for a 4-3-3 formation for this game away at Marseille. Kevin De Bruyne is set to return to the first-team along with Phil Foden in place of Bernardo Silva and the injured Sergio Aguero on Tuesday night.
4-3-3 Manchester City Predicted Lineup To Face Marseille
Defence
Ederson will continue in goal for Man City after failing to earn a clean sheet in each of his past two outings. Ruben Dias will once again operate alongside Eric Garcia at the centre of Guardiola’s defence as they try to contain Marseille from creating too many clear-cut chances during the game.
Kyle Walker will be guaranteed a spot at right-back while Joao Cancelo gets another shot to catch to the eye as the left-back. Both full-backs will be desperate to make some overlapping runs in the hopes of orchestrating some meaningful openings inside the opponent’s penalty box.
Midfield
Ilkay Gundogan, Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne will make up the Man City midfield. The talented trio’s primary focus should be to establish their dominance at the centre of the park and feed some inviting through balls to the front players.
De Bruyne’s availability will be a big boost for the Mancunian club as they try to navigate their way past a tricky opponent in Marseille. As mentioned earlier, Bernardo Silva will have to settle for a spot on the bench as Guardiola looks to keep him fresh for next weekend’s trip to Sheffield United.
Attack
Phil Foden will probably get the nod to impress as a wide player down the left flank. At the same time, Riyad Mahrez will look to make himself useful as the right-sided winger while functioning in and around the opposition penalty box. Raheem Sterling will once again be deployed as a makeshift centre-forward, so the England international has to find a way to step up and give a good account of himself in the final third on Tuesday night.
Sergio Aguero is unlikely to recover in time for his game, but Ferran Torres should be available for selection on Guardiola’s bench.
