Manchester United clashed heads with Paris Saint-Germain at Le Parc Des Princes earlier tonight hoping to kick off their UEFA Champions League campaign by earning maximum points on the road. The Red Devils made a bright start to the game and took the lead in the 23rd minute via Bruno Fernandes’ penalty. The Mancunian outfit defended well and managed to keep their narrow one-goal lead intact heading into the half-time break.
Anthony Martial scored an unfortunate own goal in the 55th minute which levelled the scoreline. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men never gave up and finally managed to win the game courtesy of Marcus Rashford’s excellent strike from long range. The contest finished with the Red Devils securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory at the French capital.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player fared during the game against PSG.
GK: David De Gea – 8.5/10
The Spanish keeper was back to his best as he pulled off a few solid saves to restrict PSG from scoring more than once.
CB: Axel Tuanzebe – 8/10
He was excellent throughout the 90 minutes and was a dominant presence in the air. However, he ended up with a yellow card to his name after a fine night’s work in Paris.
CB: Victor Lindelof – 7.5/10
Lindelof didn’t let the occasion get to him and produced a solid display at the heart of the Man United defence.
CB: Luke Shaw – 7/10
The ex-Southampton left-back played a part in earning the first-half penalty which Bruno Fernandes converted from the spot. He was not afraid to play his way out of the defence and deserves credit for maintaining a resolute shape at the back.
LM: Alex Telles – 7/10
Solskjaer’s new singing showed a few glimpses of what he is capable of and was even on set-piece duty during the corners. He ran out of gas and got replaced in the second half.
CM: Fred – 8/10
The Brazilian midfield ace was full of energy and running at the centre of the park. He closed the opposition down quite effectively in midfield but lacked quality in the attacking third.
CM: Scott McTominay – 7.5/10
The Scottish midfielder protected his backline well and did enough to see out the win in the second half.
RM: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7/10
Wan-Bissaka made some important tackles and just about managed to keep Kylian Mbappe quiet during the 90 minutes. However, he hardly created anything meaningful in the opposition half.
CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 7/10
The Portuguese international was fortunate to retake his missed penalty and kept calm to convert the spot-kick. However, he was lacklustre in the second half.
ST: Marcus Rashford – 7.5/10
The English attacker used his pace well on the counter and popped up with the winning goal in the 87th minute with a powerful strike from long range.
ST: Anthony Martial – 5/10
The French striker started brightly by earning the penalty in the first half. However, he scored an own goal after miscuing his header badly in the 55th minute.
Substitutes:
CM: Paul Pogba – 7/10
The French international was bright and inventive with his ball-distribution from midfield.
RM: Daniel James – 6/10
He offered some fresh legs on the field.
CM: Donny van de Beek – 6/10
The Dutch playmaker did enough to see out the victory in the latter stages of the match.
