Chelsea are pursuing a move for AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger. The 23-year old has been in Antonio Conte’s wish list after the Italian failed to lure any top defender in the summer. The German international had injured his anterior cruciate ligament at the end of last season and missed a brief period of this season too. He returned to the action last month and since then has been very impressive for Roma.
Chelsea are ready to offer in excess of €30m for the defender. Conte has made significant changes since his arrival and has opted for a three-man defence at the back. Rudiger can play in the three-man defence and also played as left back in some matches which make him a suitable to Conte’s strategy.
Rudiger had earlier rubbished talks regarding a move to Chelsea. AS Roma is right now second in Serie A and are a genuine title contender this season. It is now up to Chelsea whether they want to entice the player or not.
