Premier League giants Chelsea failed to make it two wins in a row in the Premier League after falling to a 3-3 draw against Southampton at Stamford Bridge. The Blues got off to the perfect start in the first-half when two goals by Timo Werner gave them the cushion they desired. A first-half mistake by Kai Havertz presented the Saints a route back into the game, and Danny Ings made no mistakes. A collective mistake from Kurt Zouma and Kepa gave the Saints a surprise second, moments after which Kai Havertz helped regain the advantage. A stoppage-time equaliser then found its way past Kepa to break the hearts of Chelsea fans all over the world.
Here Are The Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Southampton:
Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Southampton
Kepa Arrizabalaga – 5
The Spaniard pulled out of the challenge in the lead up to the second Southampton goal, where had he kept going, he might’ve been able to win the ball. Did make a few smart saves though.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 6.5
The skipper had a couple of good crossing opportunities where he arguably should’ve done a better job. Wasn’t able to have the biggest influence while defending against the Southampton breaks either.
Andreas Christensen – 6
The Danish defender had one scary moment in the first half where he needed Zouma to help him out. Positioned himself pretty well but needs to be more dynamic in the defensive third.
Kurt Zouma – 5.5
The Frenchman was arguably responsible for putting Kepa in a dangerous position ahead of the Saints’ second goal. Despite playing well, his avoidable mistake cost the Blues an unnecessary goal.
Ben Chilwell – 8
The speedster bombarded forward on every possible opportunity, and his delivery from wide was sensational as well. Tracked back well and held up the dangerous Walcott pretty efficiently.
Jorginho – 8
The Italian playmaker was in control of the tempo in the first-half, and he even produced a moment of real quality to release Werner for his second. Never looked flustered in possession.
N’Golo Kante – 6.5
The Frenchman put in a solid defensive shift all through the ninety, but was found lacking in terms of offensive passing. Wasted a couple of good opportunities to release a Chelsea attacker.
Mason Mount – 6
The Englishman didn’t have the impact he might’ve been hoping for in the final third, and gradually fizzled out of the game in the second half. Needs to offer more penetration in attack.
Kai Havertz – 7
The German youngster was directly to blame for the first Southampton goal as it was his giveaway that led to the Ings chance. Made up for it with an easy goal in the second half though.
Timo Werner – 9
The German was nothing short of sublime in the first-half as he ran rings around the Saints defenders. Made sure to finish his chances off in style and opened his Premier League account in the process.
Christian Pulisic – 7.5
The American sensation was unbelievably good in the first-half, but wasn’t able to replicate that form in the second period. Was substituted in the late stages of the game and replaced by Reece James.
