According to a recent report by the Daily Record, Finnish striker Teemu Pukki has tipped international teammates Glen Kamara to make a switch to the Premier League in the near future. The midfielder, who has done a decent job for the national side, was being watched by the likes of Newcastle United and Everton over the course of the summer transfer window. Pukki has heaped praise on the Rangers man’s talents and even went to the extent of saying that him moving to the Premier League is only a matter of time.
Although Pukki has tipped Glen Kamara to find a Premier League switch, whether or not the former suitors remain interested in him is something only time will tell. Speaking on the matter, the Norwich City striker said, “Glen is a top player and I think he would definitely do well in the English Premier League. I’d bet on him playing there at some point in his career. I enjoy playing with the national team and enjoy the manager, enjoy the group of boys that I’m with, and it’s always an honour to play for the national team.”
What Is Rangers’ Current Midfield Situation?
The Ibrox club have started the season in strong fashion, and have the opportunity to go clear of Celtic in the league table by beating them later in the week. The fixture between the two sides is sure to have massive repercussions whichever way it goes, and Steven Gerrard’s men will be eager to gain an out-and-out lead over their Old Firm rivals. Rangers completed the loan signing of Bongani Zungu, and if initial reports are anything to go by, then there’s every chance that the South African will be a Rangers player beyond next summer.
The Glasgow giants boast several options in the middle of the park, but Kamara had primarily been deployed in the holding midfield role. Ryan Jack and Steven Davis are the other options in this position, and both of them have done a better job than the Finland international since the start of the season.
Kamara seems to lack the conviction required to perform at the highest level, but it takes nothing away from the natural ability that he possesses. Although Gerrard has played him on numerous occasions this season, the former Arsenal man has failed to capture the imagination of the Rangers faithful completely.
What Does Glen Kamara Add To This Rangers Team?
The midfielder is at his best when deployed in the holding midfield role, from where he would have the time required to pick up the ball from the defenders and then make something happen. Although the signs he showed during his first season at the club were highly positive, it must be conceded that Kamara hasn’t been able to replicate that same form since that point. A decent enough passer of the ball, the midfield excels at linking up the play, but his quality when on the ball has been found seriously lacking on various occasions so far this season.
Pukki Has Tipped Glen Kamara To Find A Premier League Switch: Should Gerrard Cash In?
Although the initial signs after his arrival were extremely positive, living up to that standard is something that Kamara has failed to do during his Rangers career so far. With the Ibrox club hoping to challenge Celtic to the league title, quality in midfield is going to be a necessity. The likes of Davis and Jack have done a decent enough job this season, but having depth in the roster is sure to be of utmost importance as well. Unless a high-quality midfielder is brought in to replace him in the holding midfield role, selling Kamara could prove to be a dire mistake by the Scottish giants.
