In a recent report, Calciomercato has mentioned that Inter Milan are dreaming of a move for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero next summer. It is believed that the Milan giants are planning to acquire the services of the Man City frontman when his current contract at the Etihad Stadium runs out at the end of this campaign (via Calciomercato).
Aguero’s Incredible Goal-Scoring Record In England
The Argentine marksman is currently out of action due to a serious knee injury but is set to make his comeback at some point after this international break. The 32-year-old has established himself as the most decorated and prolific striker in Man City’s history after banging in 254 goals and providing 73 assists in 370 appearances for the Mancunian outfit across various competitions.
The Buenos Aires-born forward enjoyed another prolific season at Manchester in the previous campaign when he registered 23 goals and four assists in 32 matches under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola. However, his incredible contributions in front of goal did not translate to success with Man City only managing to lift the EFL Cup last season.
Aguero proved that he is still good enough to lead the charge for Guardiola’s team after averaging 3.2 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the 2019-20 Premier League campaign. He was even relatively tidy when interchanging possession with his teammates inside the opponent’s penalty area as evident from his pass success rate of 80.5% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
What Are The Argentine International’s Greatest Strengths?
Aguero has lost a yard of pace from his game over the past couple of seasons, but he can still make some well-timed runs in behind the last line of the opposition defence. He is a natural goal-scorer who is not afraid to shine in the big moments when the spotlight is on him to deliver on the field.
The 97-time Argentine international has established himself amongst the best strikers in the Premier League era and has got nothing left to prove in England. However, he is yet to win the elusive UEFA Champions League trophy which is something that he will be desperate to rectify after he comes back from his injury layoff later this year.
Should Man City Allow Aguero To Leave On A Free Transfer Next Summer?
Aguero has been nothing short of a loyal servant for Man City and has played an instrumental role behind their recent success and stranglehold in domestic football. Hence, the Mancunian giants owe it to the player to let him leave in his own terms when his contract runs out next summer.
However, Guardiola should still try and persuade Aguero to pen a new short-term contract as he has still got a few good years left in his locker. Plus, the presence of a striker of the Argentine’s winning mindset in the Man City dressing room could help Guardiola’s young stars strive for excellence in the years to come.
