In a recent report Sky Sports has claimed that West Ham United have agreed on a fee to sign Brentford winger Said Benrahma but are yet to agree on personal terms with the player. It is believed that the Hammers have reached an agreement on a fee worth in the region of £30m to acquire the services of the Algerian international before the domestic transfer deadline later this month (via Sky Sports).
Benrahma’s Incredible Numbers At The Brentford Community Stadium Last Season
The 25-year-old enjoyed a massively productive season for the Bees in the previous campaign when he produced a series of eye-catching performances on the left side of Thomas Frank’s attack. The former OGC Nice talent registered 17 goals and ten assists in 46 appearances for the Championship club last season. Benrahma even managed to help Brentford reach the EFL Championship playoffs finals. Despite his heroics, they were eventually beaten by Fulham which extinguished their promotion hopes for at least another season.
The Algerian stayed put at the English capital throughout the summer and has begun this season on fire after banging in two goals in three appearances for the Greater London outfit thus far. However, he needs a bigger stage to push himself so that he can take his game to another level.
West Ham could be an ideal destination for him as they will offer him the opportunity to feature in the Premier League week in week out. Furthermore, he could flourish playing with the likes of Pablo Fornals, Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio at the London Stadium in the coming seasons.
What Will The Algerian Wing Wizard Add To David Moyes’ Side?
Benrahma has established himself as Brentford’s main threat recently and did well to average 3.8 shots, 2.1 key passes, 3.0 dribbles and 0.7 crosses per 90 minutes in the 2019-20 EFL Championship campaign (stats via whoscored). Going by the numbers, he is an excellent dribbler with the ball and can create space for himself to get a few shots in on-target. The four-time Algerian international has also shown enough creativity to justify a move to the Premier League, where he could succeed with better players around him.
However, it will be difficult for Benrahma to maintain his high standards in the English top-flight as he will be tested both physically and emotionally while going up against some of the best players in world football.
Either way, Benrahma will undeniably add lots of goals and assists to David Moyes’ frontline and could strike up a lethal attacking partnership with Michail Antonio at the East London club. Plus, the Algerian hotshot will increase competition for places within the West Ham squad which might be enough for them to secure a top-half finish at the end of this Premier League season.
