According to a recent report by the Daily Record, Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has delivered a rather cryptic message about his future, amid lingering interest in his services from Middle-Eastern outfit Al Duhail. The ultra-rich Qatari giants had already registered their desire to sign the striker earlier in the summer, with time available until the 25th of October to potentially get the deal over the line.
Ligue 1 outfit Lille were also in the race during that time, but they were seemingly unwilling to meet the Gers’ £20m valuation of the attacker. It reached a point where even Gerrard conceded that there was interest in their prized possession’s services.
Although the report has clarified that Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos has opened up amid Al Duhail interest, whether or not the move to the Qatari side materialises is something that only time will tell. Speaking during the international break, the Colombian said, “I’m very happy for this beautiful opportunity. At the moment I’m thinking of the Colombian national team and whatever comes to Rangers I will decide in the coming days. The consistency I have had at Rangers is important. I have worked to be here. I have scored goals in the League and in the Europa League. I am proud of what I have done.”
What Is Rangers’ Current Strike Situation?
The Ibrox club have been quite busy in the transfer market over the course of the summer, and that is for all to see in the current strength of their attacking roster. Although the wide areas still remain a concern, the centre-forward’s role is something that Gerrard has addressed in a rather effective manner. Considering that they brought in two players for the position and not just one, it can be presumed that the manager was planning ahead for Morelos’ potential departure from the club. Morelos hasn’t looked like the same player from the first half of last season this time around, and the fans will surely have taken notice of that as well.
The additions of Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten are sure to go a long way for Gerrard’s side this season. Unlike their Old Firm rivals Celtic, Rangers usually play with just one striker leading the line, which means that three out-and-out strikers are all they would need to see out the season. Apart from Morelos, Roofe, Itten and English veteran Jermain Defoe are all available as options.
Although injuries have hit them hard at the start of this new Premiership season, they can take motivation from the fact that it can only get better from here. The sheer number of injuries that they’ve had to deal with so far this season is nothing short of ridiculous however.
What Makes Morelos Such A Fan-Favourite At Rangers?
The Colombian, since arriving from Finnish club HJK Helsinki all those years ago, has developed into quite the striker at the Ibrox. Not only has he managed to settle in well and link-up with his teammates, but the goals he has scored over the years must be taken into consideration as well. A willing runner with the ball at his feet, Morelos offers excellent predatory instincts in the final third of the pitch, while he also tends to be rather precise with his finishing. Still only 24, the attacker has the best years of his career ahead of him, while he also has six caps for his country during this short time.
Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos Has Opened Up Amid Al Duhail Interest: Should Gerrard Look To Cash In?
Kemar Roofe has undoubtedly been the main man for Rangers since the start of the current season, and this has forced Morelos to take a back seat in Gerrard’s plans. With Cedric Itten and Jermain Defoe getting in on the goals recently as well, there’s no need for the manager to be concerned about the Colombian’s departure. The amount of transfer fee they receive for his services will be the crucial element, and considering how rich Al Duhail are as a club, it wouldn’t be overly surprising to see Rangers cashing in on their prized possession before the October 25th deadline.
