In a recent interview with LAROMA24.IT, Everton playmaker Bernard’s agent Adriano Spadotohas provided an update on his client’s future by claiming that he could join AS Roma for €7m when the European transfer window reopens in January.
Bernard’s Fall From Grace At Merseyside Over The Past Year
The Brazilian winger has made a vibrant start to this campaign after scoring one goal and grabbing one assist in his two appearances in the EFL Cup so far. However, he has failed to break into Carlo Ancelotti’s first-team with the likes of Richarlison and James Rodriguez ahead of him in the Everton pecking order. Unless there is an emergency, Bernard’s situation at the north-west of England is unlikely to change any time soon.
The ex-Shakhtar Donetsk wing wizard made 30 appearances for the Toffees last season but only managed to register three goals and two assists for them across all fronts which has diminished his worth at Goodison Park. The 28-year-old struggled to be productive with his offensive contributions in the previous campaign as he averaged 0.4 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League (stats via whoscored).
The 14-time Brazilian international needs to secure regular first-team football, so it seems like he has no choice but to part ways with the Merseyside club during the January transfer window.
What Are The Brazilian Playmaker’s Best Attributes?
Bernard is blessed with blistering pace, which he can use to make some energetic runs with the ball down the left flank. He is a technically-gifted footballer who can be a joy to watch when he is firing on all cylinders on the field. The Brazilian wide player has also got the vision to create opportunities for others around him but needs to be more lethal in front of goal if he wants to reach his full potential. He is even versatile enough to play anywhere across the frontline.
Should The Toffees Cash In On Bernard In January?
At the moment, Bernard is surplus to requirements at Merseyside. Getting €7m for a player like Bernard, who is heading towards the end of his contract, seems like a good deal for the Toffees as it will allow Ancelotti to trim his squad in search of more consistent players in the future.
The Brazilian sensation will also be enticed with an opportunity to move to Rome, where he could flourish as a winger and become more successful under the guidance of Paulo Fonseca. For now, Bernard has no option but to fill in as a squad player for Everton until January when he might finally get a chance to find an escape route out of Merseyside.
