In a recent report, The Independent has claimed that Liverpool are in pole position to land Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho next summer. It is believed that Manchester United’s failure to acquire the English playmaker’s services during the recently concluded transfer window could open the door for the Reds to snap him up at the end of this campaign (via The Independent).
Sancho’s Mesmerising Spell In German Football
The 20-year-old has made a bright start to this campaign after netting one goal and providing two assists in three appearances for Lucien Favre’s side across all fronts. The London-born prospect had already established himself as one of the most productive wingers in Europe following a majestic season in the last term when he banged in 20 goals and secured 20 assists in 44 matches for Dortmund in various competitions.
Sancho enjoyed a rich vein of form as a right-sided winger at Signal Iduna Park as he averaged 1.6 shots, 2.2 key passes and 2.4 dribbles per game in the 2019-20 Bundesliga season. He was also one of the most accurate ball-distributors in Favre’s first-team as evident from his pass completion rate of 85.1% in the top tier of Germany (stats via whoscored).
The former Manchester City youth player is one of the most promising talents of this generation, so it would be a massive coup for the Reds if they can find a way to get him on board at the end of this campaign.
What Will The English Winger Bring To Merseyside?
Sancho has got blistering pace in his locker and is quite efficient at using his burst of speed to get past his marker in the decisive end of the field. He has transformed himself into a consistent goal-getter and prolific assist-maker during his time at Signal Iduna Park. The 13-time England international also has a good engine in him which makes him such a constant nuisance for the opposition. He has some unfinished business in the Premier League where he had previously struggled to perform at a high level as a youth player for Man City.
Will Recruiting Sancho Be A Dream Move For The Reds?
A player of Sancho’s proven quality and potential will be a dream acquisition for Liverpool as he has the skill set to secure a regular starting berth at Anfield. He will add even more pace and variety to Jurgen Klopp’s attack. At 20, the English wide player will also serve as a long-term signing for the Reds and could flourish playing in Klopp’s brand of counter-pressing football.
Sancho is good enough to give the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota a run for their money for a place on the wings in the Liverpool first-team. Hence, the reigning champions of England should try everything in their power to orchestrate a move for the England international next summer.
