Bayern Munich have confirmed that Sven Ulreich has left the club for Hamburger. The Bayern Munich goalkeeper joins the 2.Bundesliga outfit in a move worth only around €2 million. HSV’s head coach Daniel Thioune has also confirmed that the club are undergoing negotiations regarding Ulreich and the transfer could be completed soon.
What Was Sven Ulreich’s Current Status At Bayern?
Sven Ulreich had been playing as an understudy for Manuel Neuer ever since he joined Bayern Munich back in 2015. He has also done an excellent job of providing cover for the German international producing some memorable performances throughout the years.
Unfortunately, Ulreich’s time in Bavaria was up as Bayern Munich were keen on moving on. The Bundesliga giants had signed Alexander Nubel on a free transfer earlier this year, with the former FC Schalke goalkeeper joining the FC Bayern camp in the summer.
Nubel is regarded as one of the most promising young ‘keepers in Europe. He bags a lot of potential and with Neuer nearing the final phase of his career, the 24-year-old is being considered as the future of FC Bayern in goal.
The ex-Schalke prodigy has already been preferred to Ulreich in these early parts of the campaign, though he is yet to actually make a senior appearance for the Bavarians.
Does A Move To HSV Make Sense?
Hamburger SV have found it difficult to return to the top-flight following their relegation in 2018. They came close last season but fell to SV Sandhausen on the final matchday.
This summer they have lost their second choice goalkeeper Julian Pollersbeck to 1.FC K’Lautern, leaving Thioune with Daniel Heuer Fernandes and Tom Mickel as the only two remaining options in goal. That is where someone like Ulreich could come in handy.
The German has a lot of pedigree at the highest level of football and his experience could be useful for HSV as they look to gain promotion to the Bundesliga.
For FC Bayern, offloading Ulreich could help them balance their wage structure in a year where they have suffered financial losses due to the pandemic. It has been reflected in their lack of market activity as well.
But with Ulreich leaving the club, it could serve as a slight financial boost for the Bavarians as they look to add some reinforcements in the attack and midfield before the transfer window slams shut within the next few days.
