Everton’s Premier League campaign is slowly losing its vitality with after how they started in the first four games. Despite having much of the first team squad, the team does not seem to have clicked and Koeman is pretty much back to square one.
The Dutchman is looking to bring in fresh faces this January and according to latest reports Hoffenheim central defender Niklas Süle has a long-term admirer in the Everton boss. Apparently, the 21-year old was monitored by an Everton scout and the feedback has been positive.
Everton does not seem to have much of a defensive problem this season on paper with a very experienced and effective back four in the likes of Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka, Ashley Williams and the brilliant Seamus Coleman. They have conceded 14 goals in 12 games until now, which is a decent record. It indicates that Süle is a long-term prospect for the Toffees and this deal hasn’t emerged out of their league run. Everton have major problems up front with goals drying up as the league progresses.
Niklas Süle, who was also linked with Liverpool and Tottenham this summer, came through the ranks at Hoffenheim. The German, according to Squawka, has won 20 tackles this season with a success rate of 71%. He has made 15 interceptions, 34 clearances and five blocks in 10 appearances. His average passing accuracy is also 88%.
Considering his physique, Everton will have a monster of a defender in Süle, who could easily provide aerial supremacy to the side. The fact that his technique on the ball isn’t bad either, given his passing accuracy rate, he could be a successful player in the English top flight football.
Blocking the ball and timely tackles are two of Süle’s most positive attributes apart from his towering height and Koeman could surely use such a player to take the club to great heights. Süle’s current contract with Hoffenheim ends at 2019 but the Merseyside club are more than equipped to put a mouthwatering bid for the defender, who’s current price tag is around 12 million euros. Everton bought winger Yannick Bolasie from Crystal Palace this summer by paying 28.9 million euros, which shows that they won’t shy away from Süle if they realise him as their target.
The Toffees are currently seventh in the English Premier League table, garnering 19 points from 12 games. Their humiliating defeat away at Chelsea was followed by a frustrating draw against Swansea City last week where they missed yet another chance to go top of the table after Manchester United, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Arsenal. The need to strengthen is imperative.
