Newcastle United faced off against Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier today hoping to pick up a result away from home. The Magpies were completely dominated in the first half and conceded in the 25th minute when Lucas Moura found the back of the net from close range. Spurs went into the half-time break one goal to the good.
The Tyneside outfit worked hard in the second 45 minutes and kept themselves in the game. They got awarded a penalty in injury-time which Callum Wilson successfully converted to salvage a point at the English capital.
Let’s take a look at how each Newcastle player performed during the match against Spurs.
GK: Karl Darlow – 9/10
The Magpies goalie ended up making 11 saves during the game. He was solely the one responsible for keeping his team in the game until the last minute and deserves to be named the man of the match for his incredible performance today.
RB: Javier Manquillo – 5/10
The Spaniard threw away possession far too often and had a tough time dealing with Heung-min Son’s threat out on the wide areas.
CB: Isaac Hayden – 6/10
Hayden did well to fill in as a makeshift centre-half and pulled off some crucial clearances at the back.
CB: Jamaal Lascelles – 6/10
He organised his defence well but lost track of Harry Kane on several occasions throughout the 90 minutes.
CB: Federico Fernandez – 5/10
The Argentine defender had a few lapses of concentration but will be happy after restricting the opposition from scoring more than once.
LB: Matt Ritchie – 4.5/10
He was at fault for letting Lucas Moura score from close range. Ritchie was out of his depth, and it showed in his performance today.
RM: Miguel Almiron – 5/10
Almiron struggled to influence the game offensively but worked hard to help out his teammates in defence.
CM: Jonjo Shelvey – 5/10
He struggled to get a foothold in the game, but his set-piece delivery led to Newcastle being awarded a late penalty which Wilson converted to earn them a point.
CM: Jeff Hendrick – 6/10
The ex-Burnley midfielder kept things tidy at the centre of the park and worked hard in closing the opposition down inside his half.
LM: Joelinton – 6/10
Joelinton won a few headers and did well to earn some freekicks as well in the Tottenham half. It was another industrious display from him today.
ST: Callum Wilson – 7/10
The former Bournemouth striker kept his composure to score his spot-kick which rescued a priceless point for the Magpies.
Substitutes:
LB: Emil Krafth – 6/10
Krafth offered more defensive protection than Ritchie.
CM: Jacob Murphy – 6/10
He offered some fresh legs in midfield.
ST: Andy Carroll – 7/10
The English centre-forward won a few headers inside the opponent’s penalty box. He was lucky to earn his side a penalty after his header saw the ball strike Eric Dier’s hand.
