West Ham United will play hosts to Wolverhampton Wanderers at the London Stadium on Sunday hoping to pick up their first points of this Premier League campaign. The Hammers have suffered back-to-back losses against Newcastle United and Arsenal respectively. However, the East London outfit have done well to book a place in the fourth round of the EFL Cup after they got the better of Hull City in midweek.
David Moyes is likely to stick with his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation and might bring Mark Noble back to his first-team if the West Ham captain can pass a late fitness test ahead of the game.
4-2-3-1 West Ham United Predicted Lineup To Face Wolves
Defence
Łukasz Fabiański will operate in goal for the Hammers after being rested in the 5-1 win over Hull in midweek. Fabian Balbuena will partner Angelo Ogbonna at the heart of Moyes’ defence as they look to keep Wolves’ Raul Jimenez quiet throughout the 90 minutes.
Ryan Fredericks will get another chance to impress at right-back while Aaron Cresswell fills in on the other side as the left-back. Moyes will ask his full-backs to maintain a solid defensive shape so that they can restrict the Wolves wide players from getting in-behind them on the defensive end of the field.
Issa Diop won’t be available for this game after testing positive for COVID-19. However, Ben Johnson will provide cover for the defensive positions on the bench.
Midfield
Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek will assume their duties of the holding midfielders as they try to shield their teammates at the back by producing a hard-working collective performance at the centre of the park.
The industrious trio of Pablo Fornals, Mark Noble and Jarrod Bowen will operate just ahead of them as part of Moyes’ attack. Noble is a significant doubt for this game and will be in a race against time to be fit for this home encounter versus Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.
Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko and Manuel Lanzini will make up the numbers on the West Ham bench.
Attack
Michael Antonio will once again get the responsibility to spearhead the Hammers attack up top. The English striker managed to find the back of the net versus the Gunners last weekend which will give him a confidence boost heading into this contest versus Wolves.
Sebastien Haller will have to be content with a spot on the bench but could come as a second-half substitute if Moyes decides to call upon his services.
