Wolverhampton Wanderers will entertain Manchester City at the Molineux Stadium on Monday night hoping to pick up their first home victory of this new Premier League season. The West Midlands side managed to secure an impressive 2-0 win over Sheffield United in the opening weekend of this campaign which will give them a lot of hope heading into this highly-anticipated showdown versus Pep Guardiola’s men.
Nuno Espirito Santo will probably revert to a 3-5-2 formation and could bring Ruben Neves back for this game in place of Pedro Neto, who might have to settle for a spot on the bench.
3-5-2 Wolves Predicted Lineup To Face Manchester City
Defence
Rui Patricio will feature in between the sticks as usual for Wolves after earning a well-deserved clean sheet in his last league outing. The defensive trio of Willy Boly, Conor Coady and Romain Saiss will make up the home side’s backline. All three centre-backs will have to figure out a way to keep Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling quiet during the 90 minutes so that Wolves have a solid platform to go and pick up maximum points from this contest.
Midfield
Nuno Espirito Santo might go with a midfield comprised of Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho and Leander Dendoncker as they focus on stopping Man City from dominating the game at the centre of the park. The talented trio will also be responsible for orchestrating some decent openings in the opposition half.
Marcal caught the eye with his performance down the left flank versus the Blades last weekend. He will once again operate as the left wing-back while Adama Traore looks to put his pace and power to good use by filling in down the right flank.
Ruben Vinagre and Vítor Ferreira will be available for selection on the bench as they await their opportunity to make an impact in the second 45 minutes if needed.
Attack
Daniel Podence might get another chance to partner Raul Jimenez up top. Both forwards will look to run in-behind the Man City defence so that they can cause all sorts of problems for them in the offensive end of the pitch.
Pedro Neto might have to be content with a spot on Guardiola’s bench despite putting in a good performance in his last league start. He might get a chance to come on and influence things offensively in the final quarter of the game.
